12 intrepid ramblers set off on a wild and windy morning yesterday to undertake the 10 mile circular route from Anglezarke reservoir to Great Hill via White Coppice. The walk started in relatively calm weather with some bright sunshine and we walked through lovely woodland following the path around the edge of the reservoir. This is the largest reservoir in the Rivington chain which is fed by the River Yarrow, Previously supplying Liverpool, the reservoir now supplies water to Wigan. The water level had increased substantially since the recce was undertaken 3 weeks ago given the amount of rain that has fallen. This was also very evident further into the walk. Continue reading

2022 Bowls Season
On Monday 26th of September our Bowls Group enjoyed an end of season competition followed by a hot buffet and presentation.
Competition winners Brenda Bevan and Roy Filby were presented with their winners trophy by the group’s nonagenarian member – Jack Daniels,

Garden visits – Christmas Lunch
The Garden Visits group have arranged a 3 course Christmas lunch for Friday 2nd December. We will first visit the Grosvenor Garden centre for some festive inspiration and ideas for Christmas then on to our ” Mystery” Christmas lunch.

Arrangements have been agreed to visit Gujarat Hindu Society Temple designed by Southport Architects NJSR for a “guided tour”
We will then take lunch at a local pub (negotiating at moment and details to follow)
We will then go on to visit and have a “guided tour” at St Walburge’s Church known as The Spire and The Martyrs Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest , a gothic revival style Church designed by Joseph Aloysius Hansom who also invented “the Hansom Cab” and founded the “Builder journal”

Two New Day Trips
Day Trip 1. Starting our day with a visit to the family owned Carr Farm Garden Centre Meols . There is a big selection of goods which might encourage us to start looking for stocking fillers. Nice Cafe as well. Then we are off to the popular Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton, for a Christmassy afternoon of entertainment.. Sit back, relax, enjoy all the songs we know. Lovely costumes, even real snow.(could only get 35 tickets)

Day Trip 2 Arrive in the ancient City of Chester. Lots to see/do. The Christmas Market is on, plenty of shops for browsing, cafes for morning coffee not forgetting the Cathedral which has its’ annual Christmas Tree exhibition on display, all in aid of charity. If you are looking for charity Christmas cards they have a big selection. Then we will be going to the Celtic Arms, Northop Country Park Golf Club for our delicious Festive Lunch. This is a lovely venue with a good reputation for their food. We can sit down, relax and enjoy our meal and the company.

Turner Prize at Tate Liverpool
This Iconic building is hosting the Turner Prize this year.
Love it or loath it, we are braving the ( art?) once again after a few years break. I know we will be shocked and surprised by what’s on offer and will hear “I could do that or my grandkids can do better”
