GV does Hodnet and Bridgemere

We have arranged a visit to Hodnet Hall and Gardens nr. Market Drayton and Bridgemere garden centre, on Wednesday 26th July 2023.

Our first stop this morning will be Bridgemere Garden Centre for morning tea/coffee and maybe a little retail therapy. We will then travel on to Hodnet hall and gardens. There have been gardens at Hodnet since the 11th century. There are 60 acres of gardens and parkland, renowned to be amongst the finest in the country. A forest of trees provide a wonderful backdrop for the formal gardens, planted to give interest during every season including woodland walks and daisy chain of ornamental pools. There is also a tearoom serving light lunches and afternoon teas.The cost of the trip £23

Haigh Woodland Park – May 25

Twenty three stramblers met at the Visitor Centre for a walk through the park.

The name Haigh comes from the Anglo Saxon word Haga meaning an enclosure or a secure area to house livestock. The plantations were laid out in the 1860s to hide the condition of the landscape after being damaged by mining activity.

NEW DAY TRIP

It’s back. Lytham Annual 1940s Festival Weekend.  Set up on Lytham Green on the sea front you will find a marquee with entertainment, fashion shows, a licensed 40s bar etc.  A display of war time vehicles, vintage traders, living history displays etc.   Then don’t forget to visit the Town Centre where many shops are dressed for the occasion. Clifton Square will host music and dance. Plenty of interesting activity to take us back to the l940s. Plenty of places to eat/drink. So why not join us for a day of reminiscing, displays, parades,  vintage fashion shows etc. You might like to dress up in your favourite l940’s outfits.

WHEN? Saturday 19th August 2023. Depart 9.l5am  Ret.6pm approx. Price: £14 includes coach. Seats will be on sale at  our table on Tuesday 30th May 2023.

🌟Art Appreciation – Sadly the planned outing on the 12th July to Gladstone Pottery has had to be cancelled due to low numbers.

🌟A ticket is still available for Dirty Dancing at the Empire Theatre on 15th of June.

The group also have tickets available for Macbeth at the Prescot Globe on the 21st of September. £34.50

🌟History For Fun – the next meeting of the group will be on the 16th of June at 14:30 Kensington House. The topic will be the story of the French Revolution given by David Ward.

Strollers do Birkenhead Park

Eighteen strollers and an on-loan dog, Keith, took the train to Conway Park Station on Sunday May 21st for a walk around Birkenhead Park. We walked along Conway Street from the station to the Park. The light cloud was now thinning and giving way to bright sunshine.

Walking Netball Rocks!

Another great night at walking netball.  Don’t think we’ll be ready for the England team anytime soon but we are getting fitter, having a laugh and, best of all, feeling younger.
