Family History Group

Most of us know about our parents and grandparents, but then it can get a bit vague.

Where did the family come from?
What did they do?
Have they always lived and worked in the same area?
How far back can they be traced?

Finding this out can be the start of an adventure.
Our friendly u3a Family History Group can help you get started on this adventure, and help you explore more.

Come along for a Tea/Coffee (bring your own mug) and give us a try.

First Thursday of each month, 2.00 – 4.00pm

Lydiate Village Centre

Digital cameras – Large and small

We got some great Photos for the ‘Large and Small’ subject, thanks to everyone
that came along to the meeting on Monday and entered your pictures.
It was a challenge finding what we consider the best, below are the pictures we selected.

The next subject  ‘Radio and Tv’ will take place on Monday 30th October .

Please come along you will be very welcome .

Revised accommodation for Art Appreciation, Cornwall trip 2024

Hello all

I have been in touch with Airedale tours once again to request a change of hotel for this Art lovers trip March 2024 or I would have to cancel  I have always been aware if its shortfalls and told them from the start WE do not want this hotel. They assure me they will find a good replacement ,possibly a nearby Premier Inn, at the same cost hopefully with b/b and evening meal deal.. The problem is we are such a large group and most St Ives hotels are not able to accommodate so many.  I need to know if anyone has a reason not to stay at Premier Inn or similar.

The cost is very reasonable for Cornwall . Itinerary stays the same,

23rd March. a.m      Tate St Ives………..   then  free afternoon in St Ives

24th March a.m        Barbara Hepworth Museum then Trengwainton Gardens.

(Nat Trust) free  if a member

Let me know if you are concerned about anything please.

Best wishes,  Maureen

Lost Keys

Thankfully . a member contacted me by telephone this morning advising me that she had found a set of keys in her bag recently

She requested as to what was included and when I gave he a description , car fob , house keys and several tags , she confirmed that the keys she had matched the description

This has eased our minds as the precautions that we have had to take whilst on holiday for 5 days and then 10 days have been somewhat onerous

Thankfully Maureen and I can rest easy now that we can get back to living normally whilst out and about and not worrying about my car being taken away whilst we are asleep

Thanks again to the member for eventually finding the keys in her possession and informing us

Murder Mystery Walk 15/10/23

Ten strollers took the train from Maghull to Chester (with new trains on both legs!) for a Murder Mystery Walk. Once in Chester we made our way to the ruins of the Church of St John the Baptist – the former Cathedral of Chester dating back to Roman times. Here, we were informed that a body had been found with foul play suspected! We were Continue reading
