The Sunday Strollers decided to stay local again and walked from the Old Roan back to Maghull along the canal. After a great meal last month we decided to return to Scummies this time for a Hot Pot lunch, which got the thumbs up from everyone. Nicky and her team really look after us and most of us were able to force seconds down!!!! The meal was excellent value. Thank you Nicky. We meet on the third Sunday of the month so our next walk will be on 17th March when Margaret Mcloughlin is leading a walk in Southport were we are hoping to have a fish and chip lunch after our walk.

Sunday Strollers January
18 members took part in the January Sunday Strollers walk and three other members joined us for Sunday lunch at Scrummies. In February we are going to walk from the Old Roan to Maghull and a shorter walk from Wango Lane to Maghull . We will have lunch at Scrummies again. This time we will have Hot Pot after thoroughly enjoying our scouse today. Further details of these monthly walks can be found on the Group Support desk at the coffee morning on a Tuesday .
Sunday Strollers 20th January
We will be offering two local walks in January. Both finishing at Scrummies, near Maghull station, for a bowl of home-made scouse (other meals are available). We have been to Scrummies at this time of the year for the last two years as it is a firm favourite with our walkers . If the weather is unsuitable for walking we will still meet for lunch, so we plan our walks for 2019.
John and I are happy to lead 4 walks and co-ordinate the others. So if you are happy to lead a walk bring the details with you in January. The January walks will be approx: 3 and 5 miles long. Both walks will be flat. Further details will be posted near the time. Below are some pictures from walks we have done this year. As you can see we like to finish with a meal and a drink and the social part is just as important as the walking.
Sunday strollers @ L20
Sunday saw us on packed train to Moorfields station. A slow meander out of town to the canal locks and footpath where we strolled to Millers Bridge and L20 restaurant.
The reception was excellent and all the staff did their best to make us most welcome. Coats taken, we were seated with drinks and presented with two and three course menus, a small but perfectly balanced choice for a cold Winters day.
With a light airy venue, plenty of room, great staff and little pressure to finish, it turned out to be a great experience at a very reasonable cost (£14.00 for 3 courses).
L20 restaurant is a credit to the college!
Sunday Strollers Christmas Lunch

Sunday Strollers Oct. walk cancelled
Due to no trains leaving Maghull on 21st October the October walk for Sunday Strollers has been cancelled. The group are going for a meal in November so the next walk will be on the third Sunday in January.
Sunday Strollers – How lucky were we?
The weather forecast was not good but the rain had stopped by the time we boarded the train to Liverpool and stayed fine for the 10 people who took part in the walk. When we arrived at Central Station we only had a 2 minute wait for the Hunts Cross train. Our luck continued at Brunswick Station as we only had a 3 minute wait for the bus which took us to Hale Village. We left Maghull at 9.20 and reached Hale by 10.30 ! Not bad when you think we had been on two trains and a bus on a Sunday. David Scott joined us and made the walk more interesting by sharing knowledge on the local area. We had an enjoyable 4 mile flat walk and finished up in the local pub and had a great lunch (10 empty plates at the end) .Whilst we were waiting for the bus on the return journey we enjoyed the air show provided by planes going overhead on their way to Liverpool Airport
Sunday Strollers War Horse Walk
19 members completed 6.5 miles of the War Horse Route in Ormskirk. Before finishing off in the local Wetherspoons to celebrate one of our members birthdays.
In 1914 it was agreed that Canada Dock at the port of Liverpool
would be used to import horses to the North of England. Horses
were needed as part of the war effort. There was no site available
near the City so Lord Lathom offered Lathom Park to be used as a
Remount Depot free of charge. Continue reading
Sunday Strollers walk 10 Miles!
On a lovely sunny day the Sunday Stollers walked from Moreton to New Brighton then had lunch . They all decided then to walk to Seacombe to catch the ferry and enjoy a crusie over the Mersey . We then walked quickly up to Moorfields just in time to catch the train to Maghull. Everyone agreed it had been a great day out. We left Maghull at 10 o clock and arrived back in Maghull at 4.30 and had only spent about £7 for lunch and a drink so great all round.
Sunday Strollers 25th March
March walk will be on 25th March not 18th March.
