We have had to change the walk for 24th July. We will now be doing a local walk along the canal to Aintree and back through Jubilee Woods. This walk can be shortened by getting a train at Old Roan back to Maghull, or coming off at Bootle Arms and walking back to Maghull. If you have any queries please ring 01515310207 and speak to John or Brenda. We will do the War Horse trail another Sunday date to be advised.

Sunday Strollers June walk.
14 members of the Sunday walking group completed a 5 mile walk from Hightown to Freshfield today (26thJune). Everyone agreed it had been a great leisurely walk. The leader John McKenzie tries to find walks that are:
- about 5 miles long
- on the flat
- finish at a nice pub for lunch
- that gives people the opportunity to cut short the walk, if 5 miles is to long for them.
Today’s walk ticked all these boxes. One other member joined us for lunch after completing a mile walk to get to pub and a mile back to the station, a total of 2 miles. Well done Roberta!!!
The groups next walk will be on 24th July, meeting at Maghull Station at 10.50. The route to be advised at a later date. John would love to hear from anyone who knows of walks that fit the above criteria.
Strollers??
We may soon have to think about changing the name of this group! On our latest walk we set off from Sandhills station and walked along the canal, and Dock Road until we reached the Pier Head, where we had a short stop for a coffee or ice cream and then carried on to the Britannia pub. After Sunday lunch some of the group decided to carry on to the site of the Garden Festival and get the train at St Michaels, some got the bus/train back to Liverpool, whilst the rest of the group retraced their steps back to Moorfields, covering 10 miles!!!! Thanks to Judith and Ken for leading this walk, it was all on the flat and people were given options along the route to shorten or lengthen the walk to meet their personal needs.
Strollers- Moreton to Hoylake
15 members took part in a walk from Moreton to Hoylake on 17th April approx 4.5 miles. The weather was kind to us and we had sunshine all the way.John the leader had found an excellent pub to have Sunday lunch in when we reached Hoylake.
If you like the idea of having Sunday lunch with a group check out the proposed new group starting 5th June, for further details see notice board or speak to Marg Atlay on the holiday/trip desk.
The next U3A Sunday walks will be on: Continue reading

Sunday Strollers enjoy a walk in the sunshine
17 members joined the Sunday Strollers on 20th March. They took to the sea and crossed to Seacombe by ferry. On their way to New Brighton the group passed the Black Pearl Pirate Ship which is a community art installation situated on the beach near Tower Grounds.
Sunday Strollers- Walk in Maghull
Sunday Strollers went on their third walk on 22nd February. 12 members took part. As the trains were not running we decided to do a local walk. A lot of the footpaths in Maghull and Lydiate are very wet so it was decided to keep to the canal. We met at Maghull station and got on the local bus which took us to the starting point at Maghull Community Centre. We walked along the canal to Brewers Bridge, when four of the group then decided to make use of the new bench there, whilst the rest of the group carried on to bridge that leads to the Bootle Arms. We then all returned back to the station via the canal and had lunch at the Mogul. The walk was 4 or 5 miles long depending on which walk you did or if you like to count steps it was 8000 or 10000 steps. One of our members is only able to manage 2000 steps at present so she made her way to the Mogul and joined the group for lunch after completing her 2000 steps. Most of the group then walked home after the meal, so increasing the steps they had already completed. We were lucky with the weather and the sun even showed its face!!! Our next walk will be on 20th March, when we will meet at Maghull station at 10.50 and will go over on the ferry to Seacombe and walk to New Brighton, were we will have lunch in Wetherspoons. Members can then decided if they want to walk back to Seacombe and get ferry back to Liverpool. or get the train/bus home from New Brighton
