Moreton to Hoylake – 23 Feb.
On a bright sunny day, nineteen walkers took the train to Moreton for the first Stramblers walk of 2023. We walked along Pasture Road from the station towards the front, crossing the “River” Birket to reach the Green Hut Café. Here, a short rise led to Continue reading
Stramblers – Lunt Meadows 24 Nov
Despite weather warnings of heavy rain and strong winds, twenty stramblers assembled at The Punchbowl for today’s walk through Lunt Meadows. We set off along Lunt Road and soon took a footpath into fields, which followed the course of a brook, quaintly named “St Helen’s Gutter”. The brook leads to St Helen’s Well on the other side of Lunt Road which is thought to be 600 years old.

Yellowhammer Walk 27/10/2022
On a grey, overcast morning, twenty two Stramblers met at Aughton Park Station to follow the Yellowhammer Route Walk. We started along Long Lane, crossing Prescot Road and Holborn Hill. Twenty yards or so down Holborn Hill we turned on to a path past a small housing estate, then through a field. This took us to a pumping station at a reservoir (with a boxer on guard).
Stramblers are full
As of 23/10/22 The stramblers group is currently fully

Saracen’s Head Circular
A group of 16 Stramblers met on Thursday 15th September at the Saracen’s Head, Halsall, for a walk along the Leeds Liverpool Canal and surrounding footpaths. The weather was a little overcast but pleasant with a promise of some brighter sunshine later in the day.
Stramblers Lydiate Loop 18/08/2022
Eighteen stramblers met at the Weld Blundell to walk the Lydiate Loop, hoping to finish before the afternoon’s forecast rain. We took Pilling Lane to reach the Leeds Liverpool Canal and went south on the towpath to Bells Lane. After a short distance we turned into the field and crossed a bridge over Maghull Brook to emerge on to Green Lane. Passing the “toy soldier” Queen’s Guard we made our way to the Cheshire Lines path and followed it for a mile and a quarter before making our way through fields to Southport Road. We crossed the road and walked through Our Lady’s Church grounds to Hall Lane. Leaving the lane, we passed “The Jumps” horse race training track coming back to the canal. After a short break, we followed the towpath back to the Mersey Boat Club and took Pilling Lane back to the Weld Blundell. With even a few sunny spells, we had missed the rain and were ready for our lunch.
Thanks to Anne for organising (and re-organising) the walk and meals.
Anderton to Marston 28/07/2022
On a grey but dry day, twenty one of us met at the Anderton Boat Lift to repeat a walk we did in October 2019. We’d planned a guided tour including a trip in a boat on the lift, which had had to be cancelled because of the pandemic. Today we Continue reading
