Last year has flown by so fast it’s hard to believe, that as group, we are approaching our first anniversary. During a packed year, we have enjoyed some really interesting topics, many of which originated from members within our own group. We certainly plan on keeping up the good work as we begin another year of delving into history’s great tales.
Our first talk for this year (17th Jan) will be about Queen Mary (the wife of George V); we’ve all seen pictures of this very stately lady with her pearl choker but to find out about the lady herself join us at our regular venue – Kensington House on the third Friday of each month at 14:30
Our future programme will include talks on George Washington, Joan of Arc and the Brothers of Shugborough. All are welcome.
This month (July) we had a talk on British Eccentrics.Some were mad, and some were bad, and some were mad and bad. But all were extremely wealthy at the beginning.
Our next meeting will be at 2.30pm 16th of August at Kensington house .the subject will be Winston Churchill.

History for Fun meeting on 21st June has been cancelled due to Kensington House not being available. Law for Fun takes place on Thursday 20th June at Lydiate Village Hall 2-4pm. There are places available if you would like to attend this group this month. Please come to Group Support desk on Tuesday or text 07900525222 and speak to Brenda.
The next meeting for History For Fun will take place on Friday 21st June 2019 at Kensington House (Old Conservative Club near Maghull Station) at 2.30 to 4.00 pm.
The group will continue to meet on the 3rd Friday of each month. There will be a variety of topics and some lively discussions and input from all will be most welcome.
The topic on 21st will be British Eccentrics.

This month we had a fascinating talk on Isambard Kingdom Brunel presented by John Blundell.
Brunel was an outstanding engineer who built railways, bridges and tunnels. He also built three ships, the largest of which the Great Eastern was scrapped and broken up on Merseyside. You still can see a piece of it in Liverpool to this day. Where? If you had been at the meeting you would know !
