I am so sad to have to inform you of the passing of our lovely friend and History for Fun leader Norman Stalford..
Just a few days before Christmas, I spoke to Jean, Norman’s heartbroken wife. She has been staying with her sons family in Leeds. Normal plans for funerals have been disrupted due to Christmas and New Year closures. When she is able Jean will pass on the information.
Take care everyone. Hope you all have a peaceful and healthy 2023
On the 16th of December the History for Fun Group will be meeting at Kensington House for their last meeting of the year.
The topic will be the History of Christmas – a perfect choice. You might find out about the invention of crackers, the adoption of the tree and what exactly is a yule log?? Come along and find out.
Our next meeting will not be on the usual date as the room is occupied. We will be meeting on the 25th November at 2.30pm in Kensington House.
The subject will be Horatio Nelson given by John Blundell
All welcome – Norman Stalford
FRANK CARLYLE
Last Friday (21st Oct) History for Fun, for the first time had an external speaker, Frank Carlyle, the Liverpool historian. He fully engrossed everyone at a well attended meeting (30 plus) with his tales of Liverpool characters and Liverpool firsts, most of which none of us knew about. We hope to rebook him in 2023
Many thanks to Eric Purvis the assistant Leader who beavered away in the background to organise the event
Look forward to see you all at the next meeting – Norman
