I WOULD REQUEST  THE FOLLOWING FROM MEMBERS WHO ARE ATTENDING THE ABOVE LUNCH , COMMENCING 12 NOON

PLEASE WEAR A FACE COVERING WHEN ENTERING THE PREMISES AND KEEP THIS FACE COVERING ON UNTIL YOU HAVE TAKEN YOUR PLACE AT YOUR CHOSEN TABLE

FURTHERMORE , WHEN ACCESSING ANY AREA AWAY FROM YOUR CHOSEN TABLE , PLEASE WEAR YOUR FACE COVERING.

IT WOULD BE OF BENEFIT IF MEMBERS WHO ARE ATTENDING TAKE A LATERAL FLOW TEST ON THE MORNING OF 15/12/2021 AND IF POSITIVE DO NOT ATTEND THE LUNCH.

Masjid – E – Salaam mosque

Visit to Masjid – E – Salaam mosque , Broughton Inn and Syro – Malabar Cathedral of St Alphonsa 13th January 2022

Arrangements have been made for a morning  visit (10 – 12 am.) to this beautiful new mosque in Preston where we will be taken on a tour of the mosque , we will have an afternoon visit  2.30 – 4.00pm to the Syro – Malabar Cathedral of St Aplphonsa in Preston (late addition)

Lunch has been arranged to be taken at Broughton Inn in Broughton arriving approx. 12.30pm with lunch at 1.00pm (see George or John to make choice and pay) Soup , choice of 3 sandwiches on ciabatta  french fries and salad with replenishable tea/coffee

Cost for coach , tours and lunch is £37.00 per members

John and I thank all the members who attended the coffee morning on 07/12/21 and paid for the trip , your assistance was most appreciated.

Architecture for Fun Christmas Lunch

Arrangements have been  arranged to hold the AFF Christmas Lunch on the 15th December 2021 commencing at 12 noon at the Academy Restaurant , Tradewind Square , Duke Street , Liverpool ,L1 5BG

The cost is £22.00 per person.

Menus are available for members who have  paid and these must be completed as to the required choices , signed and dated.

In the first instance members who are interested should text George Birchall on 07826 048379 to book a place and thereafter visit the Architecture for Fun desk , pay the cost and complete a menu form.

Digital camera group

We have been asked if any Maghull and Lydiate  U3A members can enter the Digital Camera Groups’  bi monthly competitions.  The group leaders have agreed to have open entry while we are virus bound so you are invited to enter.  There are no prizes on offer, just the glory and a possible viewing at our yearly exposition 🙂

The conditions are stated below:

  • Open to ALL  members.
  • Maximum  of 3 entries per person please.
  • File format to be JPEG with a maximum size of 1 MB

Hoghton Tower and Smithhills Hall 25/11/2021

We have arranged a visit to the above 2 properties

Coach travel from Maghull Square and return leaving Maghull Square at 9.00am , please arrive at Square 8.45am (face coverings to be worn on coach , during the hall / tower tours and on entry to the Cavendish Arms dining area)

Entry and guided tour of Smithhills Hall (tea/coffee and biscuits available and included in cost)

Entry and guided tour of Hoghton Tower

Buffet lunch that was to be provided  at Hoghton Tower   has been cancelled by the premises due to staff shortages. Arrangements have been agreed with Cavendish Arms to provide soup (potato and leek) and sandwiches/fries (sandwiches on ciabatta bread with dressed salad) Hot Beef and Onion – Lancashire Cheese and Tomato – Honey Roast Ham , refillable tea and coffee will also be provided Members to contact George Birchall with choice of sandwich on 07826 048379

MEMBERS TO NOTE THAT THE COST FOR 36 MEMBERS HAS  INCREASED BUT ARCHITECTURE for FUN WILL COVER THIS INCREASED COST   NO REFUNDS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR MEMBERS WHO DO NOT TURN UP FOR THE EVENT

Slavery and Secrets Liverpool tour

We have arranged for David Hearn, of National Museums -Liverpool to carry out two tours of the Slavery and Secrets Liverpool on at  on Thursday 12th March.

Both tours last about 1.5 hours and start at 10.30  and 12.45.

Meet outside Moorfields Station (Moorfields side). Cost is £4 per member.

Holker Hall and Cartmel, Cumbria

The revised trip to Holker Hall and Gardens with , if time allows ,  a short visit to Cartmel has been arranged for 14th October 2021

We will have a guided tour of  the Hall (12 noon) after a self guided tour of the gardens , (there is no guided tour of the gardens)

The cost including all entrance and tour fees is £31.00

Members have provided there lunch choices and this has been forwarded to Heather Creasey together with the necessary cheque , lunch will be in a separate  area provided by the hall , lunch will be at 1.00pm or shortly after the hall tour has been completed

IT IS NECESSARY TO LEAVE MAGHULL SQUARE AT 8.15AM AND THEREFORE MEMBERS SHOULD ARRIVE AT 8.00AM TO ACCESS COACH (MASK UP PLEASE WHILST ON COACH , HALL AND ENTERING DINING AREA)

Auckland Castle and Barnard Castle Durham

We have joined the Art Appreciation Group on there three day / two night trip (20/02/20 – 22/02/20) based at the Durham Marriott Hotel in Durham on a DBB basis. If interested see the Discovery Travel flyer obtainable from  George or John on the Architecture for Fun desk.

Combined with the visits to Auckland  Castle  there will be visits to “The Auckland Project”, including The Spanish Gallery, Auckland Tower, The Deer Park (weather permitting), Bishop Trevor Galley, No. 42, The Mining Art Gallery and the Faith Museum.

After Barnard Castle we take a short walk to the Bowes Museum where we will take in  “The Norman Cornish – The definitive Collection

The cost is £250 pp sharing a room (single supplement £50) , all entrance fees are included

 

Met. Cathedral and Crypt

An agreement has been reached with the Executive Assistant to the Dean to visit the Cathedral and Crypt on Thursday December 12th.

Meet at 10.30am at the main entrance for a guided tour of the Cathedral at 10.45am  This should last approx. 1 hour (there is a children’s carol concert at the Cathedral at 12 noon so we will need to be out of the Cathedral at approx. 11.45/11.55am

There is a cafe in the front of the Cathedral and members may wish to have lunch/tea/coffee etc

We will then return to the Crypt for approx.1.00/1.15pm (we will try to get a guided tour of the Crypt but this is to be confirmed with the Executive Assistant to the Dean) , if not , it will be a self guided touir.

Cost for both the Cathedral and the Crypt is £8.00 per member.
