Grappenhall to Lymm – Bridgewater Canal

Having completed walking the Leeds Liverpool Canal, this was our first walk on the Cheshire Ring. This is made up of sections of six canals – the Bridgewater Canal, the Rochdale Canal, the Ashton Canal, the Peak Forest Canal, the Macclesfield Canal and the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Today’s walk was originally planned for July but, bizarrely for England, was cancelled due to the hot weather! Because of holidays and other commitments our number was reduced to thirteen this time.

We parked our cars at the Ship Inn at Lathom and took taxi minibuses to the river lock at Tarleton where the canal meets the River Douglas. Continue reading

At a celebratory meal at the L20 Restaurant in Bootle on 6th June, David Scott presented each walker with a certificate of completion of all 127 and a half miles of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The certificates were designed and printed by Anne and John Blundell. Well done everyone!
