On a grey but dry day, twenty one of us met at the Anderton Boat Lift to repeat a walk we did in October 2019. We’d planned a guided tour including a trip in a boat on the lift, which had had to be cancelled because of the pandemic. Today we Continue reading

Ainsdale to Freshfield – 26th May
16 “Stramblers” met at Ainsdale Station on a miserable, grey, blustery morning. At least the rain had stopped.
We headed west from the station towards the beach, passing some very nice houses with interesting gardens.
We eventually reached Continue reading
Christmas/Jubilee Meal 22/05/2022
Christmas/Jubilee Meal 22/05/2022
Well if 42 is the Meaning Of Life, then the forty two who attended the meal at Kensington House had plenty of life in us. This was a combination of the much delayed Christmas 2019 Meal and an early Queen’s Jubilee Meal. A marvellous spread was provided by Scrummies and we enjoyed a Quiz, Irish Bingo, a Raffle and even an Irish Bingo Raffle. A great afternoon with good food, good company and a lot of laughs. Thanks to the Kensington House staff, Nicky from Scrummies for the food and service, Phil for the Bingo, the helpers dressing the tables, and most of all Brenda for all her hard work organising the event.
Haskayne Circular 15 May
On a fine, sunny morning, a large group of twenty seven walkers met at the Ship Inn in Haskayne. There was a choice of walks on offer. A short one along the canal and back to the pub, and a longer one with the option of an added loop. While the “short” walkers set off along the canal towpath, the rest of us made our way along Rosemary Lane and across the main Southport road into School Lane.
Eastham Bromborough 28/04/2022
On a grey but dry day, eighteen walkers met at Bromborough Rake station. We walked along The Rake to Bromborough Village where Anne pointed out the Bromborough Cross, and told us that the steps of the cross date from 1278 with the cross itself a later reproduction. Bromborough Village Road took us to the busy Continue reading
Stadiums Walk 10/04/2022
On a bright, sunny morning, twenty walkers met at Kirkdale Station for a “walk and talk” to Goodison Park, Anfield Cemetery, Stanley Park, Anfield Stadium and the Isla Gladstone Conservatory. A short walk along Westminster Road and Goodall Street took us to County Road and Nimrod Street where we learned Continue reading
Pier Head to Aigburth 24/03/2022
Pier Head to Aigburth 24/03/2022
Eleven of us met at the Beatles statue at the Pier Head and had our photo taken with them. The statue was created in 2015 by Andrew Edwards, who had also created the statue outside the “Bombed out Church”, of the British and German soldiers, titled “All Together Now”. By coincidence ? there is a track on the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine album with that title. Andrew had framed his statue to reflect the way Continue reading
Birkenhead Priory 20/03/2022
Birkenhead Priory 20/03/20
On a beautifully crisp, sunny day, twenty nine of us took the train to Hamilton square for a visit to Birkenhead Priory. Leaving the station, we walked along Chester Street and passed Gallaghers pub. Brian stopped us here to tell us that Continue reading
3 parks for Sunday Walkers
Sefton Park, Princes Park, St James Gardens – 27/02/2022
Making the most of the better weather, twenty six walkers (and three dogs) met at St Michaels station and made our way to Sefton Park via Lark Lane. After a brief drinks stop at the Café, we took the long path towards the obelisk, passing a beautiful strip of crocuses on the verge. We left the park and reached Continue reading
South Parks 24/02/2022
Despite the gloomy weather forecast, a (fool?) hardy twenty strong group met at Aigburth Station for today’s walk. We left the station and walked down Mersey Road to Otterspool Drive. Because of the strong wind, we decided not to walk on the prom and instead repeat an earlier walk through Continue reading
