The weather forecast had put some Stramblers off, but eight hardy souls met at Haigh Woodland Park for today’s walk. Bob had shortened it to avoid the more waterlogged sections and we set off in fine drizzle. The early part followed Continue reading

Sefton, Princes & St James Parks 19/05/2024
Seventeen strollers (and dog, Keith) met at St Michaels Station on a beautiful sunny day. We made our way along Southwood Road and Dalmeny Street to Aigburth Road. After crossing the road, we joined the popular, bohemian styled Lark Lane. Although still not 11 in the morning, the cafés, bars and bistros were well supported with most pavement tables occupied. Some even had queues outside. An old Continue reading
New Brighton Murals 21/04/2024
Fifteen strollers took the train to Moorfields and walked down to the Pier Head for the ferry to Seacombe. The Mersey was very calm and we had some traffic to watch. Across the river, the “Stena Edda” left the 12 Quays terminal for Belfast, with Stena’s latest aquisition – “Bore Song” loading for the trip to Dublin. As our ferry set off, the Continue reading

Today both Stramblers groups went to West Kirby to walk to Hilbre Island. It was a great day, dry but quite windy. No rain, thank goodness! We our had lunch on the island. At the end of the walk 11 walkers walked around the Marine Lake, while the others dispersed, some going straight home, others going for lunch.
Thank you Anne for arranging our lovely day out, Judith.
Chester Walls and Water 28/03/2024
Fifteen Stramblers took the train to Chester. We walked into the City Centre to Bath Street and the City’s historic Public Baths, housing not just one but two Victorian Swimming Pools and have been at the heart of Chester’s community for well over 100 years. Leaving Bath street, we turned into Forgate Street and saw the Grade II listed Parkers Buildings flats built in 1889 for the first Duke of Westminster. We then Continue reading

Eighteen Strollers took the train to Kirkdale and walked through the streets to Goodison Road. Brian told us of the history of the church of St Luke the Evangelist and its back garden – now occupied by Goodison Park Stadium. He said it was rumoured that the vicar had to be an Evertonian. As we stood, a vicar entered Continue reading
Pier Head to Aigburth 22/02/2024
Despite the heavy rain and train delays, sixteen Stramblers met at the Pier Head. It wouldn’t have surprised me if the walk had been cancelled, but we set off with brollies up and fingers crossed. One good thing was that the wind was very light and behind us. We headed south past the Museum, Albert Dock, the M&S Arena and the Queen’s Continue reading
Liverpool Statues and Monuments Walk
Today’s walk was a tour to hear the history and origins of a number of Liverpool’s statues, monuments and artwork, and the hidden details in some of them. We started at Lime Street Station where we had a “Chance Meeting” with Ken Dodd and Bessie Braddock, before learning of Simon Faithfull’s “Liverpool to Liverpool” journey Continue reading
Westhead 24/11/2023
Nineteen Stramblers met at School Lane in Westhead and started off along Wigan Road and Crosshall Brow before turning on to a lane which took us through open fields. Buffeted by the wind, we were glad the rain held off. We passed through Continue reading
South Liverpool Parks 26/10/2023
Sixteen Stramblers took the train to Aigburth for one of our regular walks through South Liverpool’s Parks. Light rain soon faded away and although the sunshine stayed behind grey skies, it was dry with no wind. We made our way down Mersey Road to Otterspool Drive. A plaque on the pavement marks the original Continue reading
