On our next meet up on 25th May we will be visiting the many micro pubs and bars in Southport. We will be catching the 300 bus from around 1130. The bus is due to arrive at Woodend shops (just before the Meadows pub) at 1131 so you should be able to work out what time you should get to your nearest bus stop. We last visited Southport in November last year but the weather turned nasty cutting short the crawl. Let’s cross fingers for a kinder day weatherwise this time!

Real Ale Appreciation – St Helens
A great day was had by all starting with a hearty breakfast in the North Western then on to Connoisseur Brewery and The Cricketers which won Pub of the Year 2017.
Real Ale – future dates
February – I cannot believe that it is two years since the Real Ale Appreciation Group first met up in Frank Hornby! As we did last year we will have this month’s gathering there on Friday 23rd February from 1230pm.
March – There will be no meet up in March as I am away on holiday but there will be two meet ups in April.
April – On Saturday 7th April I am planning another visit to Connoisseur Brewery in St Helens. We will be catching the 1100 train from Maghull in time for the 1147 from Lime Street. If people want to we can also visit a few local real ale pubs. This was a really enjoyable day last year and the pork pies sold at the brewery are delicious! On Friday 27th April we will travel into Liverpool and visit the pubs around the Dale Street area. Meet in the Ship and Mitre at 1230.
January Real Ale Meet Up
Firstly Happy New Year to you all! Our first meet up of the year will be on Friday 26th January at 1230 in the Court Leet, Ormskirk. From here we will visit Tap Room No 12 (formerly the Hop Inn) and then probably the Farmers Club. We will finish the day in the Cricketers.
Here’s to another year of good beer and great company!
Nov. and Dec. Real Ale meet ups
On 24th November we will be having a day out in Southport. We will be catching the 300 bus from 12 noon. I’ve checked the timetable and the bus is due at the Woodend near Northway stop at 1201, I hope this helps you to then work out what time to get to your nearest stop. Arriving in Southport about 1242 we will alight on Eastbank Street and head for the Tap and Bottles in Cambridge Walks. After here we will head for the Wetherspoon Sir Henry Segrave on Lord Street where we can have a pint and lunch. We keep to Lord Street and next visit Barons Bar located in the Scarisbrick Hotel. After here we can decide on the day where to try next.
On 22nd December we will be having a festive meet up. We will gather first in the Frank Hornby from 1230 for a pint or two and lunch. We will not be staying here as Brenda and John have kindly offered their house as a venue to carry on with the festivities. There will be music provided by Terry and his guitar!
Sept and Oct Real Ale Appreciation
There will be no last Friday meet up in September as six of us are on the Moorhouses Brewery Trip on the 22nd and I’m then away the week after.
The next meet up will be on Friday 27th October at 1230 in the Ranelagh Tavern. This tavern is located in Ranelagh Street over the road from Central Station main entrance and slightly to the left. We will then catch a bus up to Peter Kavanaghs and then work our way back into town stopping off for refreshments at various pubs. As usual if you are running late please ring me on 07801656570. Cheers! Sue

Real Ale Appreciation – Day Out
For our next outing we will again be visiting Liverpool on the 28th July meeting at 1230 in the Lime Kiln. From here we will make our way to Peter Kavanaghs. This is a gem of a pub with many unique features. We will then visit the Belvedere an old fashioned pub serving real ales and also a good gin menu. As always if you are running late please call my mobile 07801 656570 to find out where we are. Cheers, Sue
