U3A ANNIVERSARY CYCLE RIDE – LYDIATE TO LIVERPOOL
In order to celebrate our U3A 10 year anniversary and to commemorate the bicentenary of the Leeds Liverpool Canal, which runs through our area, we are planning a cycle ride, combining all three cycle groups, the Day Riders, Easy Riders and Pedal Pushers, from Lydiate to Liverpool, along the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath.
The proposed date of this event is Monday, 19th September 2016, commencing from Lydiate (Parish Hall), where the Day Riders group will join the canal between Lollies Bridge No. 17a and Lydiate Bridge No. 17 at 9.30am.
We will then join the other two groups at the park area, just after Maghull Swing Bridge No. 12, near to Maghull Baptist Church at 10.0am, for a ‘photocall’ for our website and/or newsletter. The local press will also be invited to take photos and do an article on the event.
From there we will set off (a staggered departure at 5 minute intervals) led by the Day Riders, to Liverpool Canning Dock, where the new canal extension ends. There will be stops along the way for refreshments and more photo’s taken on arrival. It is anticipated that the ride to Liverpool will take approximately 2 hours duration.
The groups will then make their way home. The Day Riders returning to Lydiate along the canal towpath, and the other two groups will make their way to Sandhills Railway Station returning to Maghull by train.
As the canal is owned and managed by the Canal & River Trust, we need to apply for permission to hold the event. An application form and risk assessment form have been prepared and forwarded, we are also required to provide proof that we hold Public Liability Insurance, which is in hand.
Please note that the above details may be subject to change.
