We will be meeting on the car park of Maghull Baptist Church, the same as last year, at the usual time of 6.30pm. Our summer walks are going well. The numbers attending are strong, consistent and the weather in the main has been good. We have been walking the country lanes and footpaths of Lydiate for an hour and a half each week. We also make good use of the canal and the Cheshire Lines pathways. It is very pleasant being out in the fresh air, on a summers evening, in the countryside, as well as getting the benefit of exercise. It is also good to have a chat as we walk, as the group are very friendly. One week, just for a change, we took the bus to Halsall and walked back to Lydiate along the canal. Everybody in the group enjoys the walking and finds it beneficial. We will always welcome new walkers to the group, but you must have had the (free) Nordic Walking Technique Course before you join us. So if you want a course please lease see details of the new summer courses as advertised in my previous post. Happy Nordic Walking, Ian

NORDIC WALKING

Our last walk for this year took place on Monday, 15th December 2014.  This time we started and finished the walk at the home of Brenda and John McKenzie in Maghull. Just to make it more festive, some of the walkers sported Santa hats and reindeer antlers with flashing lights.  We must have turned the heads of many passing commuters on their way home.  After a 3 mile circular walk around the Maghull area, taking in the lovely Christmas lights of the houses we passed on our journey, we returned to Brenda’s house for some delicious food and warming glue vine to wash it down.  Some of the food Brenda had prepared herself.  Well she is the leader of the foodie group.  The evening was a great success with some lively conversation and a few jokes thrown in for good measure.

Our first walk of the new year will start from Maghull Baptist church as usual, on Monday 19th December, 2015, at 6:30pm.

For those who want to join us but have not yet had a course, there will be two Nordic Walking Technique Training Courses taking place on the following dates:

Crosby: Monday, 2nd/9th March, 2015, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
from Crosby Leisure Centre (swimming baths).

Southport: Wednesday, 4th/11th March, 2015, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
from Dunes Splash World.

The courses, which are run by Sefton Active Walks, are free of charge.  A qualified Nordic Walking Instructor will train each course and nordic walking poles will be provided at each session. To book your place on a course, please contact the Active Walks Team on (0151) 934 2824 or email walking@sefton.gov.uk

NORDIC WALKING

Now that the nights are getting darker once again, we are moving back to Maghull, where we will walk on well lit streets.  We will meet every Monday night (except public holidays), at Maghull Baptist Church @  6.30pm, for a 1 hour walk.

We had an enjoyable summer, walking through the Lydiate countryside, with some lovely warm and sunny evenings.  The walks were varied and well attended.  One evening in August, by way of a change, we caught the bus to Halsall and walked back to Lydiate along the path of the Liverpool Leeds canal (see photo’s above).

We also had a late summer picnic, after one of our walks in September, with a selection of pizzas in Brenda and John’s garden.  Unfortunately I was away at the time on a U3A holiday and missed all the fun.

HAPPY NORDIC WALKING,

Ian

Nordic Walking

The Nordic Walking Group have been walking every Monday evening now for several weeks, in the lovely Lydiate countryside.  Our walks range between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes duration, and are between 4 and 5 miles long.  They are becoming quite popular now that the nights are lighter and warmer.  Last week we saw 18 walkers taking part.  Our best attendance to date.  We will continue meeting throughout the summer period, except for public holidays.  Here are some photographs of the group during this weeks circular walk via Hall Lane, Eager Lane, Church Lane, the Cheshire Lines path, Pummells Lane and Station Road.  Fortunately we made it back before the storm.

Happy Nordic Walking,

Ian
