NORDIC WALKING
NORDIC WALKING GROUP
Only two more Monday evening walks at Maghull before we move back to Lydiate on 3rd April, 2017 for our longer walks of 1hr 30mins. The photograph shows some of the group on a recent walk around Maghull. Whilst the weather on some of our walks has been cold, windy and wet, our loyal hardy walkers have braved the winter months and we are now enjoying the lighter nights and the start of spring. We are all looking forward to those balmy summer night walks in the countryside around Lydiate. Why not come and join us?
Happy Nordic Walking Ian, Brenda & John
Table Games – venue update
The venue for the Table Games Group will continue to be Maghull Town Hall but, we will be moving from the ‘coffee bar’ to the upstairs ‘function room‘, as from April 2017.
We will continue with Bridge and Scrabble so come along every Monday from 10 – 12 .
Canal Walking Group
Leeds Liverpool Canal – New Springs to Cowling Bridge
The leg from Wigan (New Springs) to Chorley (Cowling Bridge) was postponed from February because of Storm Doris. Most of the group will complete it on March 23rd, but four will not be available that day so walked it today.
We took two cars to Cowling Bridge, left one there and drove back to New Springs and left the other car there. We walked 7.75 miles to Cowling Bridge, had a drink in The Spinners, and drove back to New Springs. We had a lovely walk with dull but dry weather and no wind. A bit muddy at the beginning, but mostly sound underfoot. It was a level section with no locks and very scenic.
Plenty of interesting canal boats to see, particularly at Adlington’s White Bear Marina and some beautiful houses making the most of their canal bank locations.
