National U3A ‘Japan’ event. July. CANCELLED

As it is the National U3A ‘Japan’ event in July we are planning a visit from Gillian Russell, U3A NW regional trustee. She is going to tell us of her time in Japan, the art, the culture and the people.

Drawings at Harris Gallery , Preston

A drawing can be a record of how we see the world, or a visualisation of the  artist’s imagination.

The artful line – a selection of works from the Harris Gallery and the  Courtauld Gallery  examine drawing in all its forms. Featuring works from the 17th century to the present day, the exhibition includes drawings by Angelica Kauffman, William Blake, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Frank Auerbach and Deanna Petherbridge. Each drawing offers a unique insight into the mind of the artist and the process of making art.

If you want lunch in the cafe take the 11.45 a.m  train to Ormskirk from Maghull  then Preston train.  If no lunch. 12.45 train is fine

German Revolution Prints, CANCELLED

Lady Lever  – May 13th 1 p.m.

A viewing of this controversial exhibition is a must for art and history lovers alike. Including works by Munch, Schiele and Kokoschka, this exhibition explores how the social, political, sexual and moral struggles taking place during the turbulent period of the German Revolution (1918-1919) moved artists to produce such dramatic imagery. The exhibition also features important prints by Gauguin and Picasso that demonstrate how artists outside Germany contributed to Expressionism.

Ashmolean @ Kirkby. CANCELLED

 We have a talk and tour by Emily on the Touring Ashmolean Exhibition, on loan from the Ashmolean museum in Oxford.  Many famous artworks including Monet , Manet and Pissaro are included.

Art appreciation – Phil Garret Feb 14th

In memory of a well loved teacher

We are to view this amazingly talented local artist’s work on Friday February 14th, 10.30 am at
Kirkby Gallery.  This gallery is a 1st in many things and this exhibition will be one of the highlights of the year. On entering the Meadows Leisure Centre look above & behind where you will see one of Phil’s amazing pieces. 2 night stay, Durham plus. Feb.20/22nd

  Norman Cornish exhibition (  mentioned on Radio 4 as a very under appreciated British artist  because of his humble background in the mining district and in bedded British snobbery) ends Feb 23rd. a rush I know, , however we are a flexible group, so here is the info.
I have asked Discovery Travel to put together a package  for two night half board stay in Marriott Hotel Royal Country.
 I know many of you showed interest in this artist and would like to know more about him as he was one of many in The Mining Gallery visit 2019.
£250 + £50 single supplement all entry includes
 Visit to Bowes Gallery
 Visit to a newly renovated Bishop Auckland Castle.
 Plus visit to Barnard Castle.. Quite a full trip but we like our monies worth don’t we?  dates 20/22nd February.

Emily Tinne was an English woman of status, whose passion for fashion and shopping led her to accumulate hundreds of items of clothing, at a scale which was not fully realised until after her death in 1966.
