4 of the In betweeners had a good ride today to Rainford, stopping at the Cherry Orchard for coffee and then back to Maghull via Bickerstaffe and Melling. We were lucky with the weather which stayed dry and apart from a keen headwind made good progress and got another 20 miles in the bag.
21 Members of the Rambling group had a great walk in the Rainford area today. Led by Ann and Peter Willox we began and ended the walk at the Derby Arms pub. Following local paths we soon walked out of the village and completed a circuit of a little under 8 miles. Having called in at the Sidings nature reserve some of the group took the time for a brief refreshment stop whilst viewing the info boards about the colliery previously located on the site. The walk took us across lovely open countryside using field tracks and we were lucky just to get caught in one very brief shower instead of the downpours that had been predicted. Returning back to the start point we enjoyed a very sociable meal in the pub, a perfect end to a great ramble, and it was lovely to welcome new members today.
The Inbetweeners had a lovely circuit this morning from Maghull to Crosby shore and return. Sadly our planned coffee stop at the Courtyard in Little Crosby was foiled as it looks as if they have closed down! However we found a little artisan coffee shop in Crosby village which fit the bill. Lovely to have Stephen join us today so our little cycle group is growing again,

Green today for a circular 7 miles ramble through the Chorley countryside. Walking along some quiet lanes we took the 500ft climb though the fields to ascend part way up Harrock Hill to view the ruins of the ancient windmill. Continue reading
17 ramblers took part in a 7 miles circular walk from Bold Heath to the Dream today. After the brilliant sunshine of yesterday, the day was overcast and cloudy but it was an ideal day for walking as was warm but not too sweltering. The route took us from the busy main road to the bridge over the M62 motorway but then onto the paths and byways of Clockface country park. This is a 57 acre park developed on the reclaimed land of the former Clockface colliery. Continue reading
4 of the In-betweeners cycled to Inglenook farm in Rainford this morning. Setting out from Maghull in nice dry sunny weather we reached our destination in just over 50 minutes which was pretty good going for 9 miles into a headwind. The cafe is set with outdoor tables and ordering is made at an outdoor shed so lovely and safe. Having had a refreshing brew, ( and resisted the delicious cakes) we noticed dark clouds gathering so set off for home. Sadly within the first 1/4 mile the heavens opened and gave us a good soaking. This was repeated again just on the outskirts of Maghull so we literally had wet backs with the wind now behind us. However 19 miles of a good cycle ride and pleasant company was worth the wetting!.
15 members took part in an 8 mile Covid19 secure walk today. using public transport as far as Brunswick station, from where we walked along the promenade as far as Otterspool, through the festival garden site and onward to Sefton park. Having completed a good circuit of the park in lovely spring sunshine, we had a socially distanced picnic lunch by the Palm House, before returning to Lark Lane. Here some of the group enjoyed some outdoor hospitality in a watering hole before returning to Brunswick station. Regrettably the return walk was not as pleasant as we could see rain clouds in the distance which were gaining on us, and we received a thorough soaking before reaching the station. Nonetheless we had a good stroll rather than a ramble and it was good to be out and about again as a group enjoying the company. Next month we will walk to The Dream in St Helens which will be harder and more of a ramble. Details to follow.
Lovely ride for the Inbetweeners today to Sefton Park. Unfortunately too late for the Field of Hope but still lots of bluebells and other wildlife to be seen. No wind along the promenade and park not too busy. Socially distanced coffee at the Palm House and we were home before the drizzle!
For the first time since December the Inbetweeners cycling group hit the road again. With just 3 of us, as sadly some of the others are unwell, we had a good circular ride from Maghull to Crosby and back. Enjoying a lovely takeaway coffee in the park on Marine terrace it was good to get back together in a Covid secure way. The weather was kind, with no prevailing wind which made the first ride even more enjoyable, with many more to come now we’re back in the saddle. Hopefully the legs wont be too sore tomorrow!
Nine of the Monday Morning Nordic walkers met today for a lovely walk in the Spring sunshine. Walking within Jubilee woods we stopped to catch our breath by The Owl, and shelter from the freezing wind blowing across the fields. In line with the Government guidelines we are still observing the rule of 6 on the walk and continuing to social distance although the angle of the photo makes us seem closer! The official Sefton walks commence in 2 weeks time when we will be able to walk as a large group once again as an organised outdoor activity with Covid secure guidelines in place. But whether in 6’s or a group its great to get out and about together again.
