Today’s speaker Christine Bradford, area fundraiser, spoke of the work of the Royal British Legion. Once again there was a very disappointing number of U3A members who attended the talk, but those who did all agreed that the talk was not only informative but gave a real insight into the work of the organisation.

We met weekly, starting to ride within the safe confines of Litherland Sports Centre, and gradually ventured out onto quiet roads and cycle paths as our confidence grew. However…less is sometimes more and we rode from our usual start point at Litherland Sports centre as far as the Lifeguard Station on Crosby shore. We used the paths through the marine park and the very sandy paths along the first part of the shore which gave us new challenges. However on reaching the coastguard station we faced our biggest challenge….a puncture! Continue reading

Royal Salute
Thirteen members of the Foodie group met last week to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Tiaras were optional.
We began with an overview of “what the Royals eat” which took us from the gluttony of Henry VIII through to the more simple palate of todays royals. Our first dish was Eggs Drumkilbo, a favourite of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. This consisted of hen and quails eggs, lobster, sherry jelly and Marie Rose sauce, with a hint of brandy.
