Hi everyone, just a reminder
There will be no August meeting our next meet will be September 12th. This meeting will be all about FORT CROSBY with ALISON BURNS.
Last Friday,s speaker Dot Broady Hawkes gave a fascinating talk on Latham Hall and the history of the families involved.
another really interesting speaker that kept everyone enthralled for the full hour and half.
we will most certainly be inviting her again for more of the same in the not to distant future.
next months (October) speaker will be our very own historian David Ward will be talking about the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, knowing David this should be a good one.
Last Fridays speaker Kate Hurst gave us a very interesting talk and we will most certainly be inviting her again
She spoke about the difficulties of being a catholic in the 16th century in the North West of England and she also spoke about the history of our local schools in the Maghull area.
Our speaker on 18th August will be Kate Hurst and she will be talking about catholic reticence in Maghull and Ormskirk in the 8th century. Our September speaker will be Dot Broady Hawkes and her subject will be Lathom House and in October our speaker will be our very own historian David Ward and he will be talking about Napoleon
Fridays talk with our guest speaker Frank Carlyle was a great success. It was all about Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot (with an unusual twist to the tale).
Frank as usual was both interesting and amusing and we will no doubt be inviting him again in the future.
Frank will be this month’s speaker and his talk will be about Cromwell and the English Civil War at the usual place Kensington House at Station Road 21st July 2.30 pm
Last months THE HISTORY OF ROCK & ROLL with DAVY EDGE was a great success with a full (Kensington) house. He sang 10 songs starting with Elvis and finishing with Bob Dylan plus some of his own poetry and a good time was had by all.
This months 19 May talk will be THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE presented by John Blundell b.s.c (pharm) No doubt it will be an interesting subject with the usual questions afterwards.
Our next History for Fun presentation, on April 21st, will be “the history of rock & roll”.
With appropriate live music by Davy edge, ladies bring your dancing shoes.
This months history presentation, on Friday17th March, will be ‘The Crusades‘ at the usual venue, Kensington house, Station road at 2.30 pm till 4.00 approx.
