Walking Netball

16 members joined together this morning to take part in our first taster session of Walking Netball, which was hosted by Netball England at West Lancs College.  This was the first of three session, members can still join in on either 12th or 19th May or both dates.  Walking Netball is a low impact form of sport, which is a good way of keeping fit as well as being lots of fun.  The years were rolled back as we took part in a  fun warm up session followed by a game of walking netball.  Everyone really enjoyed the session and are looking forward to next week. Once the taster sessions are complete we will look to start again in September, the College will inform us what times are available, we will then complete a survey amongst the people interested to find the most suitable time.  Stephanie from Netball England would be willing to support us on a part time basis and one of our members has been on a course which means she can host sessions.

If you are interested in joining us ring Brenda McKenzie on 0151 531 0207 or 07900525222 or come to the Group Support desk on Tuesday morning.

Canal Walking Group – April

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

April was the first time the Canal Walking Group used a mini bus to take them to the start and pick them up at the finish of the walk.  This proved to be very successful, we left the canal halfway through the walk and had a look around a small village where we had lunch.  We finished up at a pub were we had a welcome drink in front of a blazing fire and planned our next walk.  We have now reached Riley Green Bridge which is number 91b. We are hoping to reach Skipton by November which is bridge 179.  Everyone agreed this stretch of the canal had been the best so far.  So onwards and upwards,  we will be walking from Riley Green to Whitebirk Bridge next month. Thanks to Tommy for taking great photographs. Read David’s update from April walk Continue reading

April Walk -Chorley enjoys an excellent reputation for its lively markets which date back to at least to 1498, In the Middle Ages the parish church is said to have had a reliquary containing some of the bones of St Laurence. Close to the town is Astley Hall, the Elizabethan former home of the Charnock family, well worth visiting and entry is free(check opening days/hours first) and contains the bed where Cromwell slept after the battle of Preston in 1648.

BADMINTON 3 ?

Badminton 1 and 2 have both been full for some time.  The leader of Badminton 2, June Avery has looked in to the possibility of starting a third group if there are people out there who would like to play badminton.   Badminton 2 meet at Hudson School on a Tuesday night at 6.30 to 8pm.  An idea would be, the new group could meet at 5.15 to 6.15 on the same night at Hudson and two members of Badminton 2 would come early to help to get the new group get up and running.  We would need at least 8 people to make this idea work.  If you are interested come to the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning or ring Brenda Mckenzie on 0151 531 0207.

Recorder Group Started

recordersAt last we have started a music group, thanks to Christine Otim and Lynne Maloret.

Nine people attended the first session of the recorder group today. There were 5 treble recorder players and 4 descant recorders. Most people were beginners with a few having played some years ago at school. They managed to learn 3 notes together and played their first piece of music!!!!. They have no plans to become expert musicians, but to join together for a fun time playing popular music. They meet at 11.00 in the sanctuary of Maghull Baptist Church on a Tuesday when the U3A coffee morning is just about to finishing. If you would like to know more contact Lynne on 0151 526 4490 or come to the Group Support desk on a Tuesday Morning.
