We will be meeting for this walk at Maghull Station at 10.30 not the usual time of 11 o,clock.  The walk which will be lead by Judith will be from Moreton Station to Hoylake.  This is a flat 5 mile walk along the front.  It is hoped to have lunch at the Ship Inn in Hoylake .  Please let Brenda or Judith know if you intend on coming so we can book lunch. The pictures below are when we did this walk last year. Bring your pass if you have one.

New Group – Bird Watching

Enough people have shown interest in this group so we will have a meeting after the notices have been read on 19th September at the Baptist Church.  It is hoped it will be a self learning group, so if you have some knowledge on the subject and would be willing to share that with others that would be great.   Like all new groups the hardest thing is to get it going.  If you would be interesting in helping lead this group please come and have a chat at the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning or ring me on 0151 531 0207.

Walking netball group

With the support of Netball England we are going to start walking netball sessions on a Friday morning 9.30 to 10.30 at West Lancs College in Skelmersdale (next to ASDA). Everyone is welcome, this is a fun way to keep fit.  Some of our members have been on taster sessions and the feedback was very positive.  One of the issues raised was that some people do not have transport to get to the college, this is not an issue as other members are willing to provide lifts.  Please let me know if you are interested either at the coffee morning or by ringing 0151 531 0207.

Sunday Strollers – July Walk

The Strollers had hoped to do a walk around Freshfield last Sunday, but, at the very last minute had to change this due to repair work taking place on the unmanned crossing near Freshfield.  As we were booked in at the Pinewoods pub for lunch it was decided by the group to walk from Hightown to Freshfield.  It was a lovey day and the group, in the end, walked 7 miles.  Nine walkers took part, all agreed it had been a good walk which ended with an excellent lunch at the Pinewoods pub.  We will do the walk we had planned to do in September and have booked in at the Pinewoods pub again.  Please note for the August walk we will meet at 10.20 not 10.50am at Maghull Station.

The walks for the next months – all starting at Maghull Station

Aug 20th – Moreton to Hoylake lunch at Ship Inn meet at 10.20

Sep 17th – Freshfield lunch at Pinewoods pub meet at 10.50

Oct 16th – West Kirby lunch in West Kirkby meet at 10.50

ITALIAN GROUP ???

Some time ago we tried unsuccessfully to start an Italian Group. So I am going to try again.  Is there anyone who would be interested in starting this group. The German group has very successfully used tapes to get it going this could be an option.  Please give me a ring on 0151 531 0207 if you could help in anyway to get this group started,

Walking Netball

There is still time to take part in a free tester session.  The last taster session is taking place this Friday (19th May) at 9.30 to 10.30 at West Lancs College in Skelsmerdale.  Come to Group Support desk on 16th May for more details. We are hoping to start this group in September, up to now 18 people have attended taster sessions and all agree it has been great fun and a good way to keep fit.

Modern France – election of National Assemby

Our Modern France group which meets twice per month has had some vigorous debates on the current French elections.   Members were remarkably well informed and enjoyed identifying how different the French electoral system is from our own.   The story is not yet over, since they have to go through another two-stage process next month in order to elect the National Assembly.   So anyone with any degree of interest in comparative politics in this year of elections would be welcome to come to our June sessions at Lydiate Village Centre, June 13 and 27 from 2.30 onwards.
