Arley Hall Gardens and Knutsford

We have arranged a trip to Arley Hall Gardens and Knutsford for Wednesday, 23rd July 2025. We will first visit Knutsford,  a Market Town in Cheshire, for a look around the town and maybe have a morning tea/coffee. Later we will  visit Arley Hall Gardens. The gardens are amongst the finest in Europe and  have been created over the last 270 years by successive generations of the same family. As a result the garden is rich in atmosphere, interest and vitality. They also have a plant nursery and Kitchen Gardener”s Cafe with produce grown in the garden, and  they serve tea/coffee, lunches etc.  There is also a gift shop. This should be an interesting and enjoyable day out.  Cost £21.

THURSFORD, NORWICH BREAK

We have arranged a 3day 2nights break on Dinner, bed and breakfast on

23rd November 2025, staying in a 4star Holiday Inn hotel.  £469 based on

30 passengers. Thursford  Christmas spectacular is Britain’s biggest and

most exciting Christmas show, set in the most magical surroundings with a

cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and magicians. It’s a brilliant show

Bodnant Garden and Tweed Mill

A Garden Visit to Bodnant Garden National Trust has been arranged for Wednesday, 21st May 2025.  Set in the gentle hills east of the River Conwy across the mountains of Snowdonia. Undoubtedly, Bodnant Gardens looks spectacular throughout the year but with spring comes a crescendo of colour.

They have a national collection of Asian Magnolias and Rhododendrons, some of them more than a century old. The gardens most famous feature is the stunning yellow cascade of the Laburnum Arch and we hope it is flowering for our visit.

Bodnant Gardens is the perfect place for a wonderful and enjoyable day out for everyone.  There is a tea room and gift shop

We will first stop at Tweed Mill for a look around and maybe for morning tea/coffee.

Garden Visits – Calf’s Head Country Hotel & Shackletons Garden Centre – 26th March 2025

To start the Garden Visits first outing for 2025, we have arranged a 2 course Carvery lunch at the Calf’s Head Country Hotel Worsley, Clitherow.  Wednesday, 26th March 2025.

We will first visit Shackleton Garden Centre. It’s a well stocked garden centre and hopefully give us some spring inspiration.  They have a warm and welcoming cafe which we can have a morning tea/coffee if you wish.

Later, we will go to the Calf’s Head Country Hotel for our carvery lunch with a choice of two or three roast meats and a vegetarian choice, also a selection of delightful desserts. Then to finish a tea/coffee included in the meal.  Cost of trip  £33.

Christmas Festive Meal 2024

The Garden Visits group have arranged a Christmas meal on Wednesday, 4th December 2024.  We will visit Gordale Garden Centre a family run business, this is a beautiful and interesting garden centre with plenty for us to see around Christmastime and give us some festive inspiration.   We will then go onto Christmas lunch.
The venue is a mystery as some people like a  ‘surprise’. We offer a 3 course meal, with three choices to choose from in each course.  It also includes tea/coffee and mince pie.  The menu will be available at the Garden Visits table for you to choose.   The cost –  £46  a deposit of £15 is required   (cheques made payable to – Maghull and Lydiate U3A ) the rest maybe paid later.

Depart. – Maghull Square.     9.30am  and return  – Maghull Square.    5.30pm approx

Abbeywood Gardens and Nantwich

We have arranged a garden visit to Abbeywood Gardens and Nantwich Cheshire on Wednesday, 28th August 2024.

We will first visit Nantwich a lovely market town in Cheshire for a look around and maybe a morning tea\coffee etc.  We will travel a short distance away to Abbeywood Gardens.  Its a 45 acre estate nestling in Delamere countryside in the heart of Cheshire and 6 acres of formal and informal gardens also, stunning views of the Utkinton Hills.
We will also be able to enjoy a delicious cream tea in the Garden cafe all included in the cost of our visit.   This should be a interesting and enjoyable day out.        The cost is £26 (including the cream tea)

Plas Newydd Anglesey and Tweedmill Wales

A garden visit to Plas Newydd Anglesey has been arranged for Wednesday 24th July 2024 and Tweedmill in North Wales.  Plas Newydd is a National Trust Grade 1 listed house and garden situated on the banks of the Menai Straits. We will be able to explore the house and wander through the Grade 1 listed garden, there is something for everyone.  There is a tearoom  and gift shop.  We will stop first at Tweedmill and have time to look around and maybe for morning tea/coffee.

Bridgewater RHS Gardens and Fryers Garden centre Knutsford

A day trip to RHS Brdgewater garden on Wednesday,13th September 2023.  The former site of Worsely New Hall in Salford, a heritage landscape thats been transformed into a iconic RHS garden.   Bridgewater is the 5th garden and one of the largest and most gardening project undertaken in Europe.

Landscape architect, Tom Stuart-Smith created the masterplan and fantastic Bridgewater team, alongside award winning garden designers have brought the garden to life. Bridgewater also has a cafe overlooking Victoria Meadow and offers seasonal food hot & cold and tea/coffee.

We will first visit Fryers garden centre in Knutsford, renowned for its extensive range of indoor and outdoor plants, home of beautiful roses. They also have a cafe offering tasty food and tea/coffee. The cost of trip  £21 – payable by cheque preferably. This should be an interesting &  enjoyable day out.
