A dozen Strollers plus Milo the dog met at Maghull Station for today’s walk. A cold, grey, but dry day with a “fresh” wind. We set off along Melling Lane past a Valentines Day post box topper in Willow Hey and turned up Summerhill to reach Poverty Lane. A short walk along Leatherbarrow lane took us to a footpath/lane parallel to the M58. I only realised today, when looking at our route on the map, that this lane is called Loverose Lane. The path rose to join Moss Nook Lane and the bridge across the motorway. We continued through fields again parallel to the motorway until we reached Giddygate Lane which followed for a short stretch before turning on to a footpath past a small lake with a large tree house on its bank. After about five hundred yards we crossed Moss Nook Lane and a further five hundred took us to Leatherbarrow Lane and Sandy Lane. We passed the nursery and the Old School House and turned into Tithebarn Lane which led to Rock Lane and the Bootle Arms. St Thomas Church still had a beautiful poppy display on its lychgate. We walked down Rock Lane past a house displaying a Warwickshire Constabulary badge – presumably the home of a former officer. We were soon on Melling Lane and passed under the motorway to arrive back at Maghull Station.

Thanks to Brian and Brenda for recce-ing and leading the walk. See you all next time.
