The Rambling Group had a great turn out today with 14 members meeting on the Wirral, to undertake a 7 mile circular walk around Parkgate. The route took in several parts of the Wirral way, fields, some footpaths and finally the King Charles III coastal path.
To celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the England Coast Path has been renamed the ‘King Charles III England Coast Path, leaving a lasting legacy to be enjoyed by walkers around the entire English coastline. The National Trail will be the longest managed coastal path in the world. It will go all the way around the coast of England and will be around 2,700 miles long when it is complete. It will link iconic places and heritage on the coast, with the less well-known, and will unlock some parts of our coast for the first time.
Whilst today’s walk was shorter than some of our recent walks, we still enjoyed lovely views over the coast, saw an array of sea birds and took advantage of the milder weather to get out and about. Of course no visit to Parkgate would be complete without visiting either the famous fish and chip shop or the ice cream shop. Mentioning no names, some enjoyed both today, whilst the majority enjoyed a hot lunch either from the “chippy” or from the pub. This walk completes our open programme for the year as our December walk always encompasses a Christmas meal which has already been booked. However, the walks will be open to any newcomers in January 2025 when I am sure we will be undertaking many lovely and varied walks in the surrounding countryside.
Thanks to Hilary for leading today’s walk and for Joan assisting her on the recce.
