Fourteen Strollers took the train to Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, for a visit to Birkenhead Priory. Nestled in the rolling Peak District Hills, Thornbridge Hall is a Grade 2 listed Stately Home. Set in 80 acres of parkland and 12 acres of formal gardens. It is the private home of Jim and Emma Harrison and their family. It is recognised as one of the most beautiful, quirky homes in the UK. We will have a guided tour of the House, often the guide is one of the family. Hear its’ history, see the stunning William Morris stained glass window. Stroll around the beautiful gardens and view the Italian Garden, 100ft Herbaceous Border, Water Garden and much much more. Visit the Emporium with its’ plant sales and locally made gifts. Take in the breathtaking views from the terraces. Maybe even visit the Duck Fountain and meet the animals in the smallholding. Relax in the Quackers Cafe and enjoy a welcome cream tea. Maybe choose one of the speciality Craft Beers which are produced at the nearby Thornbridge Brewery also owned by th
e family. Then if time allows we will visit Bakewell a popular destination in the Peak District. Famous for its’ Bakewell Pudding and Tart. Visit the Old Pudding Shop. There are interesting shops and plenty of choice for a cup of tea/coffee or maybe a chilled glass of wine.
