The Virtual Village Hall is an online activity hub and community, designed to help people stay physically and mentally active, connected and having fun. Sessions are led by expert tutors and some well-known faces, and require very little space or equipment.
We will start our day by visiting the lovely village of Ironbridge set on the banks of the River Severn, in the Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire. The shops, tearooms etc. parade alongside the River Severn so you can enjoy a coffee with a view. It is also home to the iconic Iron Bridge built originally in l779. This magnificent monument stands as one of the greatest symbols of where the Industrial Revolution began and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a walk across the bridge, there are lovely river views either side. Visit the tiny Toll House Museum built on the bridge which is where, in days gone by, you had to pay a toll to cross the river. For the energetic there are lovely walks along the embankment. Then we are off to Blists Hill Victorian Town Living Museum, where you can take a step back in time and experience what everyday life was like in the late l800’s/early 1900’s. Here we can visit the shops, cottages, the Pharmacy, Candle Workshop, Blacksmiths etc. visit the Pub and buy fish and chips cooked in the old fashioned way, even use old money and lots more.
When? Wed.19th June 2024. Dep.8.30am Ret.6pm. Seats will be on sale at our table on Tuesday 16th April. Price: £29 inc.entrance to Blists Hill
I have a trip on the 18th April 2024 to Heskin Hall and have noticed that two or three members, on that trip, have not renewed their Membership. Our new Financial and Membership year has now started and It is important that your Membership is renewed before that date as it has knock on effects for insurance etc. So if you have not yet renewed please think about doing so. Many thanks
11 members of the Rambling group undertook a very muddy 9 mile circular walk yesterday. Starting at the beautiful village of Abbeystead near Lancaster we tramped on roads, climbed stiles and fences,(some more rickety than others) slipped and slid on some very muddy paths, crossed waterlogged fields and nearly lost one of our group in a stream thanks to a very precarious wooden bridge! Thankfully we all returned safely if a bit dirty and mud encrusted!
The next subject –’Engineering’’ will take place on Monday 15th April
Our new Cribbage Group starts up on the 11th of April, 10:00 – 12:00 at Kensington House
