New Group –  Indoor Curling

No doubt you’ve all watched (if only a bit) the game of Curling at the Winter Olympics and been fascinated by the furious brushing of the ice by the team members as they try to ensure their stone gets closest to the ‘jack’.

Well, we can’t offer you an ice rink (so no brushing needed) but we can offer you a chance to play Indoor Curling at an u3a near you!!

The idea is simple; the stones come with small wheels which allow them to travel across a smooth uncarpeted floor with the winning pair lifting the trophy if their stones end closest to the ‘jack’.  In a way it’s a bit like bowling without the green! Teams of two play against each other with the aim of making it to the final.

We have an enthusiastic Leader ready to take on this group but now we need members who are interested in trying their hand at the activity.  There will be a list on the u3a notice board next Tuesday where interested parties can put down their name and contact number.  If we have a good take up we will then move on the finding a location and finding out which day and time would suit the most people.  Our prospective leader is quite happy to consider an evening slot if that would suit most people.

Just think, it’s a good way of maintaining your fitness during the winter months without getting cold!
