WAMOT – Walk a mile or two

The new group had its second stroll on Sunday August 9th with 16 members taking part.  A pleasant and easy stroll of about 2 miles starting and ending at Maghull station followed by coffee in Bernies.

Another stroll is planned for next Sunday going in the opposite direction.

Please contact any of the ‘leaders’ to be included in the walk.  It is essential that you are familiar with the current ‘covid’ restrictions and have up to date membership.

See the group page for these details.

20 members of the rambling group enjoyed a lovely 8.5 mile meander today. Again we were lucky with the weather, ideal for walking, not too hot, but warm enough for shorts and t-shirts. Leaving from the Ship Inn at Haskayne, splitting into 3 groups and following all social distancing guidelines, we walked through Barton Cutting nature reserve, onto the Leeds Liverpool canal through to Halsall, before walking up onto Gorse Hill for a picnic lunch stop. It was here that Dave helpfully pulled the sole off Paul’s shoe, which had been flapping for some considerable time! Thankfully there was only a bit of road work on the walk, or it could have been quite uncomfortable walking just on a cardboard inner!. Passing along the edge of the nature reserve we came up to Gorse Hill Reservoir, where once again United Utilities were digging away, Unusual wildlife was in evidence in one of the gardens we passed, then circuiting back though Lydiate we returned to our start point at the Ship where some of us enjoyed liquid refreshment in the beer garden. Thanks to Alan, and his four legged friend for leading the walk. The next ramble is on Thursday 3rd September. route yet to be decided!

WAMOT – Walk a mile or two !

It is important to stay active, sit less and move more for your physical, mental health and wellbeing. Sunday Strollers usually meets once a month at present but the group decided to meet more often and complete 5 miles local walks.

Four members of the Sunday Strollers decided to form another group that would help members who do not want to walk 5 miles. The group has been called Walk a Mile or Two and completes local walks up to 2 miles.

11 members took part in the first walk which was just less than 2 miles and we plan to do another walk this Sunday 9th August, which is just over 1.5 miles. Social distancing rules are followed. If you want to be involved in either groups please text Brenda McKenzie on 07900525222 for further details.

A Hilly Ride!

Today 12 riders from M & L U3A and Ormskirk and Aughton U3A met to ride to Prescot. Weather conditions were excellent and we made good progress along the Rainford By-pass. Our usual cafe stop in Prescot was closed due to Covid. Probably the first closure since the war! We found an excellent cafe in nearby Tesco’s and enjoyed a brew in the sunshine. Some nice downhill sections towards St.Helens was soon replaced by a long haul up to Billinge where it was time for another brew at Fir Tree Cafe and a return home via Bickerstaffe to complete this 47 mile ride.
