Peloton Progress

I’m not sure if there is a collective noun for a gathering of cyclists but there was one yesterday at Old Racecourse Road when three U3A Cycling Groups met to go on their respective rides.

The Day Riders made our way through Lunt, Thornton and Crosby to pick up the Coastal Path through to Hightown, Formby and Freshfield where we took the by-pass route into Ainsdale where it was time for a brew and where we met up with Phil’s Breakaway Group.

We returned against a stiff headwind across The Moss to Halsall.

Next week’s ride will be to Widnes via the T.P. Trail, meeting at Aintree Station.

Sunday Strollers – 5 mile walk

28 members joined the Sunday Stroll today.  We now have 34 members and have had to close the group as it has become so big. We are looking to start another group so if you fancy leading it please come to the Group Leaders Support desk on a Tuesday morning. We would be able to provide walks that you could do.

The group have been going 4 years and started with just three members.  We are off to Chester next month and Sefton Park in March.

Walking Netball

Our Walking Netball group continues to grow.  Two more of our members are going on a Netball England Hosting Course at the end of January.  Most weeks we have enough members to make two full teams. If you fancy joining us come and see Margaret Ashton at the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning.

It is a really fun way to keep fit and although most of our members have played before we do have members who have never played netball.  We play on a Friday morning at West Lancs College.  We do share lifts so we may be able to sort a lift out for you if needed.

One of our members has just completed a Photography Course at West Lancs College and took these photos for us.  Thanks Evelyn

New Day Trip

We will start our day with a visit to the historic city of Lancaster, set on the banks of the River Lune. This is an English Heritage city, compact, vibrant and quirky, with a captivating past and cultured present. There is something for everyone here – museums, galleries, the castle, priory, shopping, Georgian architecture, ‘Olde World’ pubs and the Charter Street market. Take your choice of its’ lively coffee culture, including Atkinsons’ famous coffee and tea merchants, where you will get a cup of freshly roasted coffee.  Follow footsteps along ancient alleyways and discover for yourself its’ charm.  Then we will be off to the White Cross restaurant which is set in a 130 year old converted cotton warehouse on the banks of the canal.  It has a very good reputation for food and we will have a delicious 2 course lunch, pre-selected from an excellent choice of menu, (3 courses if you prefer is an extra £4)

Wed. 25th March 2020 Dep. 9.15am  Ret. 5pm.  Price: £25 inc. lunch.  Seats will be on sale at our table on Tuesday 21st January 2020
