15 Ramblers and 5 Easy walkers joined together today for a roam around 2 of the parks in the south of the city. Alighting at St Michaels station we walked to the perimeter of Sefton Park and meandered along its wide pathways. Passing by the fountains, band stand and fairy glen we took a detour into the Palm House. This was set up for Christmas celebrations and looked splendid. The guide showed several of the group the donation book which included the donation made by the late George Harrison to help return the building back to its former glory in 2002. It was fortuitous that a pop up café had been installed and many of the group availed themselves of festive mulled wine and mince pies….just enough to stave off the cold on a winters day. Warmed through we left Sefton Park to stroll down the road to Greenbank park, which although small, had an great array of birdlife including cormorants and a heron. Following a quick circuit of the lake we retraced steps back to Sefton Park and down Lark Lane where lunch at the Monkey Grinder awaited us. It’s quite a strange phenomenon that the sight of a lunch stop somehow speeds the legs…and those who had strolled at the back somehow led the charge to the finish line. Following a lovely meal we returned back home by train, having completed our 12th walk of the year. The next ramble is on 2nd January and will be ” ship to ship” Haskayne to Burscough. Details of the walk will be posted between Xmas and New year. Easy Walkers resume in February. Thank you to everyone who has led walks this year, and we look forward to another year of good rambles in 2020.
