Real ale group – May

After a quick lunch in Blacklers  ‘Wetherspoons’ we headed for the Pen Factory. It has  a nice airy space inside with a brick building surrounded courtyard outside, which, in bright sunshine was perfect for our group. Then on to The Grapes and finally The Dispensary.  Another really easy afternoon and home by 6.

Foodie Group take to the water

Twelve members of the Foodie Group enjoyed a lunchtime treat today on the restaurant cruiser from the Mill Hotel and Spa Chester. Our starters were served as we sailed away from the hotel on the Shropshire Union Canal towards Northgate Lock. Having returned briefly to the hotel, the main course was served as we continued on the canal towards Hoole Lane lock,  followed by a choice of delectable desserts, mostly highly calorific but extremely tasty! With wine to help the meal along, we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon, with good company and  conversation before returning to the hotel where our canal voyage ended. Another successful gastronomic venture for the group, with a picnic to follow next month to round off the academic year.

Nordic Walking Monday Evening

Monday Evening Nordic Walking Group were blessed with a sunny evening when walking last night.  The group continues to improve and now regularly complete a five mile walk in 1.5 hours.  Five of the group have agreed to go on the Nordic Walking Leaders training which is provided by Active Sefton later this month.  Most weeks we have up to 16 members taking part.  We returned to Lydiate on 1st April and have been able to do a different walk each week since that date.  The aim is to see how many different walks we can find.   Next week we are getting the bus to Halsall and walking back along the canal to Lydiate weather permitting.  On 8th July we have decided to do a shorter walk in Maghull and have a get together after.  Appropriate photos will be added to website.!!!!  watch this space. To join this group you do need to complete a free 4 hour training course run by Active Sefton.  Details can be found on their website or visit the Group Support desk on a Tuesday morning.  Poles are also available to borrow on each walk.
