PC skills helpers for library
I am just enquiring on behalf of your local Library, here at Meadows Leisure Centre.
We are looking for some people to do 1 to 1 help sessions for members of the general public in basic computer use.
An hour or two each week would be all that’s needed.
This would be arranged by appointment, & simply be an informal chat through whatever they need to learn to do. How to type a word document, how to go on the internet, how to send & receive emails etc – these are common inquiries.
One of the Library Computers would be booked for each session, so the only ‘equipment’ necessary would be provided! Sometimes we have enquiries about ‘tablets’ too, so if anyone has a little expertise in that area also they could be useful
If there is anyone involved in the U3A, perhaps, who you think might be interested in helping local people in this way please could you let us know via the email;
maghull.library@sefton.gov.uk or telephone 0151 288 6731
We could then arrange to meet & discuss what is involved.
Yours hopefully Michael @ Meadows Library
Derwen GC and Dingle Gardens
On Wednesday 10th July 2019 our first visit will be to Derwen Garden Centre, Welshpool. It’s the finest independent garden centre in the country and run by the Joseph family. It has a restaurant with a large indoor shopping area and a farm shop which prides itself on its finest quality meats, cheese and vegetables. We can also visit the award winning themed gardens from the RHS Chelsea flower show. The family have created their own themed gardens to give visitors the Chelsea experience. A Celtic garden, Italian garden, Mediterranean, oriental garden to name but a few.
In the afternoon we will travel the short distance to Dingle Gardens. This garden was created by Barbara and Roy Joseph within the beautiful mid Wales rolling hills and is an Internationally acclaimed RHS partner garden. The garden is especially well known for it’s unusual planting. The stream fed lake and huge array of plant species make this sheltered dingle a haven for all types of wildlife. This is a truly beautiful garden and offers an ideal day out. Tea/Coffee is free and you can help yourself. Both Derwen Garden Centre and Dingle Gardens & Nursery are owned by the Joseph family.
Cost £17 Depart Maghull Square. 8.45am Return Maghull Square 6.30pm approx
Garden visits – Cadnant
What a great day out to Plas Cadnant and the ‘hidden gardens’
What started out as a miserable wet and windy day evolved to a lovely warm and sunny afternoon stroll around the beautiful gardens, followed by afternoon tea.
Well done girls for a great day out.
Thank you for your wonderful support
Thank you again to all our members who so generously sponsored Maria Mullin to run in the London Marathon on 28th April to raise money for Dementia Revolution.
Maria ran the 26 miles in 4 hours 40 minutes, and is pictured with her medal just past the finish line in the Mall.
With the last donations now in, she has raised £3426 including gift aid.
Our U3A members have donated £1140 of this.
Overall, the 1000 people who ran for Dementia Revolution have raised £3 million, which will now be used to fund research into the disease. Thank you all for being part of this effort.
Ramble: Beamers trail
14 of us set off this morning from the Butlers Arms in Pleasington, a picturesque village on the outskirts of Blackburn, to walk the 6 miles of the Beamers Trail, part of the 32 mile walk known as the Witton Weavers Way. Pleasington was the manorial home of families such as the Ainsworths and Butler-Bowdens and still has a row of handloom weavers cottages within the village. We joined the path at Pleasington Priory, which is a fine example of a Gothic Roman Catholic Church. Continue reading
