We are a group practicing a level of German that is somewhere between Beginners and Intermediate. We tend to use stories and are currently working our way through the “Café in Berlin“ series. Most group members studied some German in school and have not used it much since then. Others have come to it later in life for various reasons. If you would like to try us out, please contact me, or just come along on a Thursday morning at St Georges parish hall. We meet most Thursday mornings outside of the school holiday periods.
Hello Bryan,
From what you say, I suspect that you would fit comfortably into both groups. I have no qualifications in German or in teaching but I invited members to learn with me. Personally, I am following a couple of internet courses and I use a lot of internet material with the group. We usually have between 10 and 12 people present. You would be welcome to join us. Why not come along for a week or two and see what you think? We meet on a Thursday morning at 10am until noon at St George’s Parish Hall in Station Road (if you know Maghull, we are about 400 yards from the railway station). We have finished for the summer and start again on 12 September. Let me know what you think and contact me again if you want to know more.
The French group is run by David Ward, an excellent man who was a lecturer in French at John Moores University, but the group members are lesser mortals! We sit and chat about our week for an hour and then do something like discussing a newspaper or magazine article. This group meets on a Monday afternoon at 2pm until 4pm at the same venue. Again, you would be most welcome to come along and try it out. French restarts 16 September.
Outside of the U3A, there is a language group that meets in Crosby at 10am on a Sunday at the SING centre. There are French and German groups (amongst others). I could give you details if this interests you.

Hello Peter,
I’m just enquiring about the Maghull and Lydiate U3A German group. I have kept up my interest in the language over the years and would like to practise what I am learning. My level would be between O/A level/Conversational. Would your group be suitable? If so, are there any vacancies? I am currently a member of Southport U3A, but would have no problem joining Maghull and Lydiate group.
PS. I think you’re involved with the French group, in which I would also be interested, at a similar level.
Thankyou
Bryan Rogers
