January Ramble: Thursday 3rd January

Kick start 2019 with an 8 mile circular ramble starting in the lovely village of Croston. We will use flat rural footpaths and quiet country lanes. There are 3 stiles to be negotiated and some sections could prove muddy after the rain, so appropriate footwear is essential. There will be an opportunity to have a pub lunch after the walk. Meet at 9:30 at Maghull Baptist Church to organise car share. Further details of ramble can be obtained from leader, Alan Carr 07949 379266. No need to book ,just turn up!

Sunday Strollers 20th January

We will be offering two local walks in January. Both finishing at Scrummies, near Maghull station,  for a bowl of home-made scouse (other meals are available).  We have been to Scrummies at this time of the year for the last two years as it is a firm  favourite with our walkers .  If the weather is unsuitable for walking we will still meet for lunch, so we plan our walks for 2019.

John and I are happy to lead 4 walks and co-ordinate the others. So if you are happy to lead a walk bring the details with you in January. The January walks will be approx: 3 and 5 miles long.  Both walks will be flat.  Further details will be posted near the time. Below are some pictures from walks we have done this year. As you can see we like to finish with a meal and a drink and the social part is just as important as the walking.

Netball England – well done

On a huge night for the sport, England’s dramatic last-gasp win over hosts Australia in the netball final at the Commonwealth Games in April was voted sporting moment of the year. The netballers also claimed the team of the year gong, beating off competition from Europe’s Ryder Cup stars, the Ireland rugby team and the England football team.

Away from the elite level of the game, England Netball have been trailing a new version of the sport to appeal to women of all ages. Our Walking Netball Group is part of this trail.

Unlike the English Netball Team we didn’t win any awards but we enjoy ourselves every Friday morning at West Lancashire College.

If you are interested in joining us please contact Margaret Ashton on 0151 285 1817 or call at the Group Support Table on Tuesday mornings. Lifts can be organised from Maghull Square.
