MATHS + ART Wed 5th September

Maths 4 Fun will restart on Wednesday 5th September, 2.30 – 4.30 when we will continue to explore the links between Maths and Art.

Lots of drawing involved so you will need a pencil, ruler and compass again for this session.

We look at all the fun stuff they never told you at school.

Venue – Kensington House

Entrance £1.50 All welcome

If you hated Maths at school, come and try this fun alternative.

No stress, lots of laughs, this is Maths but not as you know it!

Day Trips Festive Lunch

It’s time to think about our Christmas Festive Lunch again!! We will start our special day at Barton Grange Garden Centre Nr. Preston. To visit here at any time of the year is an experience but to visit it at Christmas is truly magical. Beautifully decorated and full of ideas for your own Christmas, with a wide choice of decorations, plants, food and gifts, there is something here for just about everyone. Lovely cafe where we can enjoy a morning coffee/tea etc. Then we are off to Singleton Lodge Country House Hotel. Poulton le Fylde. Set in its’ own spacious grounds, this comfortable hotel has an enviable reputation for good food and friendly staff. They even have their own llamas on the front lawn. Time to relax and enjoy a delicious 3 course festive meal followed by tea/coffee, chocolates and mince pies. You are invited to come and join us.

Theatre Group

We have arranged a trip to London, departing Maghull on Tuesday 4^th December and returning on Thursday 6^th December with Discovery Travel. We will be attending a performance at the Royal Albert Hall, with a free day for sightseeing, followed by a trip to Windsor Castle. Please ask at the theatre desk for a booking form.

Pedal Pushers: 2 seasons in 1 day!

Several of the Pedal Pushers, plus a couple of Easy Riders, met today from various points of Maghull at Robins Bridge, and rode to Scarisbrick Marina, a distance of just over 16 miles for a return trip. The day started pleasantly warm with lovely sunshine, and we cycled along country lanes, admiring the crops watching the farmers bring in their harvests, and sat in the sun at the Marina to enjoy a drink. The Marina was very busy with many boats moored there, along with some very interesting house boats which stay there as a permanent base. Continue reading →

Walking Group: the Tolkien Trail

17 members of the walking group set off today to walk the Tolkien Trail, in the area of Hurst Green. Many areas of the UK aspire to have links with J.R.R.Tolkien, but the author certainly spent much of his time at Stonyhurst College, where we started the walk, writing his novel Lord of the Rings. Rumour has it he modelled Middle Earth on this area. Stonyhurst is an independent college set in a 300 acre rural estate and is owned by the Society of Jesus. Certainly it is a very imposing building and students are very privileged to study in such a magnificent place. Continue reading →

August Real Ale Appreciation Meet Up

This month on 31st August we will be visiting real ale establishments in the St Helens area. We will be catching the 11:36 train from Lime Street (platform 4).
