11 members of the walking group donned their boots and headed for the hills in North Wales this morning setting off for a circular walk around Rhewl. Because of the recent heavy rainfalls the leaders decided to change the route slightly to avoid some of the more muddy areas, although there was plenty of slipping and sliding and the stiles proved to be quite challenging with muddy boots and walking poles adding to the negotiation. The route took us on a couple of fairly steep ascents, followed by equally precarious descents, compounded by the mud, but with the exception of one muddy trip, the route was negotiated safely. Accompanied by a very excited Labrador, who really enjoyed the biscuits at the tea stop, and a quick dip in the river, we all had a lovely 5.5 mile walk through picturesque countryside and along the side of a fast flowing river. The weather was kind to us, with just a very brief shower, and a harsh wind on the more exposed parts of the route, but we returned to our start point at the Drovers arms fully intending to walk another 3 miles after lunch. However, having divested ourselves of the muddy boots and over trousers, eaten a hearty lunch accompanied by some nice wines or real ales, we decided to call it a day and return home. Thanks to Alan for planning and leading the walk, and to Dave and Alan for driving us all on a safe comfortable journey. The group is out again on Thursday 1st March, when we will be walking from Maghull to Ormskirk via Clieves Hill. 2 walks will be available.
Lovely walk thanks Alan .
