On Saturday Sept 23rd 2017 under the guidance of George Birchall, 13 members set off on a 6 night wine tasting holiday to Andalucia. Despite being booked to fly with the dreaded “Ryanair” we all arrived safely in the town of Antiquera which turned out to be a really nice little town. The whirlwind tour started on our first full day with a visit to the wonderful ” Mesquita”, Mosque turned Cathedral, in Cordoba, a world Heritage Site and great experience, with a truly knowledgeable tour guide. The Mosque / Catholic Cathedral id possibly only superceeded by The Alhambra in Granada.. All on the same day we visited the old Jewish Quarter and The Alcazar/Fortress. there was of course a Vinyard to be visited on the return to our Hotel.
In Granada, the following day we toured the 13th Century ‘ Alhambra Palace’, what an incredible place, probably the greatest of the worlds architectural treasures, words defy me to describe it, you could spend all day there. Here also we were shown round by a knowledgeable guide.
Our day in Seville was equally fascinating. also our time in Mijas and the historic bridge over the gorge in Ronda.
Three vineyards were visited and we were obliged to taste various wines, most enjoyed and a few not. The highlight was on the occasion near Ronda when we were personally welcomed by 4 generations of the family owners including ‘Grandad’ who had himself planted many of their older vines. They could not have been more welcoming.
Overall a wonderful holiday enjoyed by all, WELL DONE GEORGE.
