12 members of the Foodie group took to the Leeds Liverpool Canal this evening for a 3 hour cruise aboard the Pride of Sefton. Safe in the hands of our illustrious skippers we cruised from the mooring at Haskayne, northward to Scarisbrick Marina, then turned around and sailed back to the turning point just before Lydiate, before returning to our starting point. We were rewarded with clear blue skies and lovely sunlight , and enjoyed a very pleasant summer evening with good food, plenty of oesophageal lubrication and great company.
The foodie group is open to new members so if you would like to join us and engage in relaxing activities such as this, check out the details here
A day of style or should I say stiles???
17 members of the walking group set out today for Parbold. 5 members completed a short walk taking in the canal and local footpaths, and from the feedback at lunch had a very pleasant walk. Thanks Kath for leading this. The remaining 12 set out from the Fairy Glen for a walk, just under 7 miles, negotiating muddy paths, fields of wheat and barley, herds of cows, the odd sheep or two, a hazardous walk of a mossy plank over a stream and 25, yes, 25 stiles!

10 MILE CHALLENGE – Sat 9 th. Sep
Calling all Nordic Walkers. In order to celebrate the Year of the Sefton Coast 2017, Active Sefton have organised a series of challenges for walkers, including Nordic Walkers, to take part in, and enjoy our wonderful coastline. The walks are free to join and no booking is required. Just turn up and join in.
On Monday July 24th 2017 8 easy riders, lead by our leader, John Ramsden, cycled The Sefton Circular Route in an anti clockwise direction. the route is 24 miles long but due to a track closure we actually cycled 27 miles. So far our most ambitious outing.
On one occasion 2 (unnamed) members nearly took a swim in the canal. Due to the diversion we were obliged to travel for a period on very sandy, difficult paths, through the pine woods, causing us to dismount and walk.
We rode Maghull, Woodvale, Ainsdale, Freshfield, Formby, Altcar, Hightown, Crosby Marina, Rimrose Valley and back to Maghull and was enjoyed by all.
We did ,of course, have a short stop for teas and coffees midway.
There were sixteen walkers on the July leg on 27th. Here’s David’s resume:
Leeds Liverpool Canal Clayton Le Moors to Burnley July 2017
Our 3.5 hour walk on the meandering canal was one of dramatic landscape and weather changes. As we left the outskirts of Clayton le Moors we were in farmland with long distance views of Pendle Hill to the north and moorlands to the south. Soon we came to a lovely wooded narrow valley as the canal turned sharply northward. Beside the usual canal barges the far canal bank was home to two bright orange enclosed lifeboats normally seen on ocean going craft and a narrowboat in a floating “dry dock”.
