Chester to Seacombe
Today’s route 35 miles
This Monday’s ride (17/07/17) started from Maghull railway station. It was a lovely hot sunny day, with 7 riders taking part, all clad in cycle shorts. From Maghull, we took the crowded trains to Central station, then the Chester train to Chester, where our ride commenced. Today’s ride was planned and led by ‘DAG’.
From the station we rode alongside the Shropshire Union Canal through Chester, then followed the River Dee, on a lovely cycle track, to Connah’s Quay. Through Deeside industrial park and across Burton Marshes by boardwalk. Lunch was taken at the Net’s Café. There were quite a few fellow cyclists at this café.
We then picked up the Wirral Way at Neston passing Parkgate, Heswal. There were lots of school children from Wirral High School, walking in organised groups along the Wirral Way. Apparently they were doing a sponsored walk for prostate cancer. Our cycle bells never stopped ringing as we approached each group, as they were totally unaware of our presence. It sounded like Christmas. We tarrived at West Kirby and continued along the sea front to New Brighton and Seacombe, where we caught the ferry to the Pier Head. The return journey was by train to Maghull.
A delightful ride on a beautiful day. Thanks DAG.
Ian
Thanks Ian for a first class review, no mention that most of the 35 mile ride battling against a fresh 8/10 mph head wind. Dag had a puncture

Longest by far but most rewarding…
Ian on only hiis 2nd ride with us said to me on the Snowdrop” Phew I’m absolutely knackered “. I agreed with him in full. We all kept up with the pace, a terrific bunch of lads.
Thanks once again for your kind comments Peter. Yes it was a lovely ride, but the good weather certainly helped. See you on the next ride for some more torture in the saddle.
Ian
Hi lads. Regarding next week’s ride from town green station. There are no trains to town green that day due to the strike.
Judith
Hi Judith,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have spoken to Phil, who said that those living nearest to Maghull Station can meet at 10am, then cycle to you at Town Green Station for 10.15 am, where we will all up and cycle to the Lavender Farm as planned. Please let your friends know.
Regards,
Ian
