In the lovely summer sunshine the Pedal Pushers today set out to ride along the Cheshire Lines towards Formby, cut across to the Bypass and cycle back to Maghull via Lunt and Sefton Village. Little did we know that the anticipated ride was going to be set with problems. First issue was a was a mud guard which slipped and had to be removed and hidden in the bushes for retrieval later!
All went well then until we reached the bypass when for some bizarre reason the brakes seized on one of the bikes. Having released the caliper of the front brake, rendering it ineffective, we travelled on, only for a puncture to be the next problem. Thanks to combined efforts the inner tube was replaced and having secured the back wheel on another bike which was in danger of coming off, we set out again, with the coffee stop in sight. Unbelievably, within 50 yards someone else had a puncture, so the bike was duly wheeled on, and yet another inner tube replacement took place before coffee. Suitably refreshed we took back to the road again, and finally reached home with no further mishap! Thankfully the group all carry spare inner tubes and various tools so repairs could be effected en route, and in spite of all the problems the ride in the sunshine was enjoyable! The mud guard was hopefully reunited with its owner and am sure a repair will be undertaken in the comfort of the garage! Hopefully next weeks ride will be a little smoother!
