WEST LANCS TO BANKS
Todays circular ride around West Lancashire, was planned and led by one of our riders, Mike Cooper. Distance 26 miles (30+ if you include the ride to and from home to the start/finish point). The ride started from Ormskirk Railway Station, with 8 cyclists. The weather was dry and bright but cold, with a strong wind.
From Ormskirk we cycled to Heatons Bridge and Bescar village. We then took the road over the moss to the edge of Churchtown, turning right over the moss again to Crossens and the road to Banks. It was hard going over the moss with the strong winds.
Sadly the cafe at Banks, where we hoped to have a lunch break, was closed on a Monday, so we continued our journey, passing the old Greaves Hall hospital site and then onwards towards Tarleton.
We then gained access to Preston New Road, and used the cycle lane to travel to Mere Brow. We had our Lunch break at Asworth Farm Shop, where we sat outside in the sun and enjoyed the lovely freshly made rolls with tea and coffee.
After lunch, we went to Holeswood and across the moss to the edge of Rufford. We then turned south towards the edge of Burscough and cycled through Burscough Industrial Estate to Ormskirk, where we made separate ways home.
Everyone enjoyed the ride through the lovely countryside, using the quieter lanes when possible. Our thanks go to Mike for planning and leading this ride.
Please note that there will be no ride next week due to the Easter Holidays.
Happy Easter, Ian
