Practical Gardening group meeting on 15 August
We met again again in Brenda’s lovely garden. Eleven members of the group attended this second meeting, with others having given apologies due to holidays etc. After introductions the group split into three groups to discuss what we would all like to cover over the next twelve months
Our next lunch date is October 2nd. in the Punch Bowl, Sefton. 1.30pm for 2.00pm.
Please note that a set menu is not available so meal choices will be from the a la carte menu to be chosen on the day.
We will still be taking a £5 “non-refundable” deposit payable in advance to the Punch Bowl Balances to be paid individually on the day. Please pay all bar bills separately.
Holidays for several of the group members meant a somewhat depleted Pedal Pushers ride today. However taking advantage of the sunny weather we travelled from Sandhills station, to the Palm House in Sefton Park, by way of Liverpool waterfront, Otterspool promenade and Festival Gardens. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying the splendour of both the park areas and it was truly a great day to be out and about on 2 wheels. By the time we caught the train back from Brunswick station we had covered about 14 miles in a little over 2.5 hrs. Good training for the joint cycle ride with the other groups in September.

We are hoping to start a new group to walk parts of the Liverpool Leeds canal. Initially we are looking at what interest we have in this project. David Scott is looking into different possibilities. Each section will consist of approx 8 miles so you must be able to walk this distance. There has already been a lot of interest shown in this group, so if you are interested contact Brenda McKenzie to add you name to the list.
A new German group for complete beginners is starting in October on a Wednesday morning 11-1. If you are interested please contact Ruth Allen on 0151 520 2690. This will be a small group of about 8 to 10 people so if you are interested contact Ruth asap.
Due to the number of people being on holiday it has been decided to cancel the August walk. The next walk will be on 25th September. We will meet at Maghull Station at 10.50. Don’t forget to bring your bus pass if you have one. There is an opportunity to do an extra walk that will be about 8.5 miles long in Ormskirk -The War Horse trail. We will start our day at the newly refurbished Golden Pheasant Hotel/Pub, in the lovely Cheshire village of Plumley, for our morning coffee/biscuits (included). Followed by a visit to the unique Cuckooland in Tabley. This is a museum with an amazing collection of cuckoo clocks with intricate carvings and some beautiful antiques, a selection of musical movements and it is one of the largest in the world. Outside there is a collection of vintage motor bikes etc.all brought together by two brothers – Roman and Maz Pieanski, two of the world’s foremost horologists, who themselves have fascinating tales to tell. We will have a guided tour of this fantastic collection, some dating back as far as l850. On leaving here we will head for the lovely Tatton Park in Knutsford, where we can have some lunch in one of their restaurants and then time for a short visit to their Christmas Shopping Fair – maybe pick up some Christmas gifts.
