Pedals pushed to excess!

In November 2015 a group of us formed the Pedal Pushers,,,,people who had not cycled for many years and wanted to get back into the saddle. We met weekly, starting to ride within the safe confines of Litherland Sports Centre, and gradually ventured out onto quiet roads and cycle paths as our confidence grew. We set ourselves a target of trying to ride 10 miles by the summer.Well the summer is now here and yesterday was the day of our long ride….the day we would try to reach our goal.

Reach it??? We smashed it! The Pedal pushers yesterday completed a ride of just under 30 miles, from Litherland Sports centre, to the Mecycle cafe in Ainsdale, where we stopped for lunch, and then returned again to our starting point.

We were blessed with good weather, a very welcome tail wind on the Formby By-pass, and a sense of enthusiasm  and good humour to encourage each other along. This was the last ride with Ross Adams, (CTC and Active Sefton) and we are indebted to him for his encouragement and support in getting the group to the point where we feel confident to ride the highways and byways on our own. Bill Ashton, our U3A leader, armed with many maps depicting cycle routes around the entire Merseyside and Chester area, will now take over this task and we will continue to set new challenges, and I have no doubt meet them!
