Off we went on our Airedale Tours holiday to stay at the Crown Hotel in Weymouth. W e had a pleasant journey down and stopped in the National Trust village at Lacock with a little time to explore. We arrived at Weymouth which is a very pretty town, with a lovely marina and our Hotel was situated right by the old Harbour Area.
The Hotel was very clean, comfortable and the food was ok. On the subsequent days we paid visits to Forde Abbey, a very special place, with a history as a former monastery but to-day still a private home. On to Abbotsbury Swannery, what an experience, have you ever seen nests as big and right by our feet. Swans galore sitting on them and turning their eggs. There was a frenzy of over 600 swans at feeding time – amazing!!. We also visited Wimborne Minster with its’ beautiful Minster, RNLI College where we had a tour showing us how volunteers are trained. The simulator was more than realistic!! Our last day was spent at Corfe Castle and its’ model village and then a steam train ride to Swanage. On the way home we visited the lovely Worcestershire town of Bewdley situated right on the River Severn. We enjoyed our break in such a lovely county. .
