When I joined the group I had only ever ridden a two wheeler bike as a child, I had never ridden an adult bike, and that was 60 years ago, so to say I was rusty was an understatement. My main fear was riding on roads.
With the help and support of Ross our coach, Bill Ashton our leader and the rest of the group I have slowly overcome that fear.
So I was thrilled yesterday to complete a 12 miles bike ride in 2 hours, which included riding on quite roads and the canal.
Anna Sewell puts it better than me:
Confront your fears
So easy to say. So difficult to do.
But until you face your fears, you’re always looking back.
You’re a diminished version of yourself.
Do it by degrees, do it with the help of others, but stare down your fears.
Watch yourself grow as the fears shrink.
To me this what the U3A is all about, achieving more with the help of others. We are so lucky to have so many dedicated leaders who are willing to give their time so freely. Thank you all. Brenda McKenzie
How true. Congratulations to you all. Sorry I missed the ride. Looking forward to our “challenge”!
Well done to the group. Looking forward to our ” day ride challenge” .
