This month (29/04/16), ten members of our group met up at the ‘North Western’, Lime Street. The premises, formerly know as the ‘Head of Steam’, Lime Street station, is now owned by Weatherspoons. It has been renamed in honour of it’s original use as the North Western Hotel, built by the London and North Western Railway and first opened in 1871, with 330 rooms.
The Crafted exhibition is a biennial show, presenting the work of makers from areas of contemporary craft, design, sculpture and new art.
For the first time, Crafted will be shown in both Kirkby Gallery and Huyton Gallery simultaneously, offering more opportunity to see some of the best artwork from across the UK.
We are planning a visit to the John Moores 2016 Exhibition
which will hopefully include a guided tour by Gemma.

Thirteen members of the Foodie group met last week to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Tiaras were optional.
We began with an overview of “what the Royals eat” which took us from the gluttony of Henry VIII through to the more simple palate of todays royals. Our first dish was Eggs Drumkilbo, a favourite of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. This consisted of hen and quails eggs,lobster, sherry jelly and Marie Rose sauce,with a hint of brandy.
The “spirit” of the Digital Camera Group is to encourage and inspire the taking of better “pictures” as, against ” snaps ”
We meet fortnightly at the St Andrews Church room 2 – 4 pm.

How many times have we passed the Church of St.Margaret of Antioch, which is better known as The Marble Church at St.Asaph? This time we will stop and have a Blue Badge Guided Tour and will be told all about the fascinating history of this beautiful building and the significance of the Canadian War Graves, but not until we have had our morning coffee/biscuits at the lovely Oriel Country House Hotel set in beautiful Gardens.
After an initial survey at our table last Coffee Morning, a significant number of members have expressed an interest in forming a Sunday Lunch Group. It is proposed to hold it on the first Sunday of every month, the first being on Sunday 5th June 2016 at the Running Horses Pub,an attractive, country pub set on the canalside in Bells Lane, Lydiate L31 4EN,(off Southport Road) at lpm (arrival recommended 12.30pm). Cost is £10.00pp. for a 2 course lunch.
May is National Walking Month Come and Join us on the 14th – 15th May! National Walking Month is all about encouraging people to walk more throughout May. A great excuse to go out Nordic walking in the Spring sunshine! |
