Walking in Coniston

We had a walk in Coniston yesterday (9th May) and my usual run of good weather for the longer rambles came to a shuddering halt. Instead of wall to wall sunshine it was wall to wall rain. Forty four of us set out from the southern end of Coniston Water in a slight drizzle but by the time we arrived at the boating pier the rain was coming down in stair rods so we all migrated to the boathouse cafe for a very welcome bowl of soup.

After much discussion thirty three people opted for plan B and walked directly into Coniston while  the remaining eleven completed the longer walk as planned. We all eventually met up in one of the local hostelries where we stayed until the coach left for home.

NORDIC WALKING

Our recent Nordic Evening Walks have proved popular with members of the group.  We have been enjoying the lighter nights and improved weather conditions in the Lydiate countryside.  The circular walks, which start from Lydiate Parish Hall, are now longer, approximately 4 miles ( 1 hr 30 mins including exercises) using country footpaths, lanes, Liverpool Leeds Canal and the Cheshire Lines path.

Sefton Active Walks have supplied me with details of the next Nordic Walking Technique Training Course, for members of our U3A who are not yet been trained.  The course will run from Monday, 3rd. June 2013,  1pm – 2pm,  at Sefton Meadows and will last four weeks.  There are 12 places available on the course and names have been drawn from the waiting list.
