U3A member Nigel Winchester was recently awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queens Birthday Honours List for community services in Sefton. Nigel, the inspirational chairman and leader of the Maghull Station Station volunteers who have transformed our local railway station, received his medal from the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, representing the Queen, at a special ceremony held recently at the Athenaeum Club in Liverpool. This prestigous award was recently revived by the prime Minister for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. Well done, Nigel.
